It is not the first time that has happened, won't be the last either.
http://archives.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/11/07/senate.missouri/ At least we made the guy that lost to him attorney general. I'm sure it has happened even more in state races. I think there was one in Michigan a few years back. |

I'm surprised they didn't make the losing party the Senator...that's got to be a blow to ego too, losing to a dead opponent

A friend at work mentioned this, not the election results though. He only said an incumbent had died shortly before the election. I joked about how bad her opponent would feel if she was reelected, but I didn't actually expect it to happen.
Wow. |

"I'd vote for a dead Democrat vs. a live Republican any day."
Probably sums up most of the voters' feelings. I bet if it had been the other way around and the GOP candidate had died and not been replaced, you would be crying liberal conspiracy at the top of your lungs.

BrillianTr!
Now that state gets to pay $2,000,000 for a new election! Those dems are so smart!
Almost as smart as the 361,912 people that voted for Alvin Greene in SC...

A complete waste of money for sure, but I can see why they did it. Obviously, they feel that being able to have a choice in who represents them is worth $2,000,000.

Unbelievable!

And they didn't really have to mention that she was a Dem, since her opponent was a Republican. It's sort of implied.

No... a blow to the ego would be the fact that the people who voted for her were to dumb to actually care about who they elect. Seriously, who elects zombies? That's just asking for free lobotomies. |
