This coming Monday is the federal election day for Canada. It will be the first time I exercise my right as a voter in the free world. It's rather exciting to be able to do that because many other countries do not have a good democratic government in that you cannot choose the leader. Of course you already know that and you can probably guess who I am going to vote for.
Hint: I wanna see some shiny new F35's. For you 'mericans, this is how it works, basically, in Canada: You vote for one representative in your riding for the party that you want and that is available in your area. The party with the most votes has a person that they put into power as the Prime Minister. If they have a majority, then basically they control Parliament. If they have a minority but still more votes, then they get to put in the Prime Minister but its more difficult to do what you want because you have all the people from the other parties nagging at you and keeping you from doing what you really wanna do. And they do that in Canada, and the House of Parliament gets really noisy when everyone is arguing. Basically this is who each party will have as a leader if they are voted in: Conservative Party of Canada: ![]() Prime Minister Stephen Harper New Democratic Party of Canada: ![]() Jack Layton Liberal Party of Canada: ![]() Micheal Ignatieff Bloc Quebecois: ![]() Gilles Duceppe Green Party of Canada: ![]() Elizabeth May If you are Canadian, get out and vote this Monday! (also this is how the government works as I know it, if i made any mistakes let me know) EDIT!: This is a very brief and summarized list of promises that each campaign member has promised: http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canadavotes2011/platforms/infogrid/

It'll be a cold day in hell before I vote Conservative again under the Conservative leadership. The disgusting disregard they've shown for democratic principles has sickened me, and half their policy approaches are right out to lunch to boot.

Harper had little to do with that. Underlying our economic stability during the recession is the system of banking regulations put in place by the Liberals, which the Conservatives tried and failed to remove. The inability of Canadian banks to dabble idiotically in the riskiest of the various financial derivatives and to play fast and loose with mortgage backed securities helped to preserve the health of our financial system. The Conservative economic stimulus was of limited effect in mitigating the effects of the recession. In reality, our inherently sound banking Satan simply provided the financial resources necessary for Canadian business to take advantage of new opportunities faster than anyone else- look how many troubled American banks were bought out by ours, for instance.

Thats the joys of the voting system you vote were ya like i vote my way. I did not want an election i am pissed off that we having yet another fing one so my vote stands.
this election is costing us millions AGAIN. As of right now i am in pretty good shape i have a house i own my car and bikes out right and i have no credit debts. Alot of that has to do with me being smart with what i make. But the rest has to do with me having a damn job. Back when the last election was happening the liberals wanted to dump millions into manufacturing for the brain dead workers. the conservatives offered said brain dead workers training to gt careers in better jobs were ya know you have to THINK. My job by nature is inherantly pretty damn stable i fix trucks for a living and as the saying goes "if ya bought it a truck brought it". I happy with the way things are going currently so id rather not change the man in the hot seat thank you.

Disregard to democratic principles? You mean like calling an election that costs millions and millions of government dollars even though the leader was democratically voted in?

Rofl- an election is inherently democratic. The government has been in place as a minority, and then when eventually found to be in contempt they failed to retain confidence in Parliament. It's an entirely democratic thing when we, the electorate, get to elect a government.
Besides that, the opposition did not 'call an election'. The government failed to engage in consensus politics- that being the implicit understanding of the electorate giving them a minority mandate. As a result of their failure, an election must occur. If the Conservatives governed in accordance with their mandate, recognized that a majority of Canadians did *not* vote for them, worked with the the parties and was properly forthcoming with information demanded by Parliament we wouldn't be in this election. But they didn't, and so here we are. |

Works for me. I even happier that Ignatiaff is throwing in the towel and resigning.
Now maybe we can go a whopping 4 years without another bloody election. |
