The wife is writing a biographical book on a Yazidi interpreter now living here in Lincoln. She has to have 90,000 words. This young man (32) was brought here as a reward for his service to US forces, and the fears of ethnic issues if he returns home. So he and his immediate family were brought to US. I am the wife's interpreter in military terms and issues on the project.
1st draft went in to publisher, and returned with the usual suggestions from the publisher, along with an advance check for $10,000. Final draft has to be submitted no later Feb 1. Contract states 22% of gross sales to her. Just wow, her first attempt at a book. Wow...my 'books' are still sitting on the rejection pile on my shelves here at the house. |

Congrats on the book, that's a solid deal.
It's worth talking about just how few interpreters actually get approved to come to the US after they were promised they could. Lots of them and their families met bad ends after their applications were never approved by the US gov. |
