I'm sorry but 5 is to young to be playing paintball.

I see parents and people bringing younger and younger kids to play at my field and its just wrong, most of these kids are all gung ho and having a great time UNTILL they get hit with a paintball, then they start crying and screaming, and the refs call the game because they think someone is seriously injured, then when they find out it was just the little kid crying cause he got hit, they tell everyone else that if they don't "take it easy on the kid" they will kick people out of the games.

Personally i feel that 12 should be a minimum age to play, but that's just me.

Maybe around 10 or so, but that depends a lot on the kid too ,if you bring him too early , and he gets bunkered , say, He gonna form a Very negative opinion of the game , on the other hand,if He's a little Bruiser , and Loves the rough stuff , maybe 10 would be just fine .

As for getting your GF to give her permission , get them used to watching the sport a bit , and guage her reactions before doing much , Never try to convince a woman of ANYTHING !! , let them convince themselves , lol . Youve got a couple years to warm them up to it at least . Diamonds, roses , and chocolates cant hurt, LOL (Please use with caution , may cause unintended side effects )

about 10+

if it moves it becomes a target

start him out in the woods - that way you dont get shot as much and it isnt as fast as speedball so he can stop and think about what he needs to do

i agree with shadowminion 100%. some kids are just too young  to play paintball cause they cant take the pain. and its not even that bad. im relatively small and i dont have a problem with them. they only hurt for like 5 seconds or maybe 10 seconds. i'd say about 10 and you better be pretty tough.

i agree with a5guy07  bring him to a woods ball game and let him play there since it isnt as fast paced and then bring him to the speedball field and let him watch alittle and learn from what other player do

My 5 year old grandson, loves to shoot at a bucket in the backyard.   aims really well too. I took him out to the field once. He had a grand time playing until he got shot from behind. It takes a lot of supervision, and you might as well plan on not playing yourself, just follow him around.

He will get hit and take his mask off. So don't leave him unattended while playing.

My grandson, did real well judging by the bruises, he got hit several times, but, it was when someone snuck around and suprised him that he couldn't handle it. No mercy, just don't let anyone bunker him. It's not the getting hit with a paintball, It's the intensity of the moment that scares the crap out of them and they are not emotionally stable enough to handle the suprise.

I have seen 12 year olds cry like a baby and not want to play anymore, so truly a good age to play is more like 18. So where do you draw the line?   Your call.

Take him out, have some fun, just give him 100% supervision.

Kudos to you JesterZmask! That is great that you are taking time to help her son out and spend time with him. He will never forget it either. My opinion is around 10-ish and really depends alot upon the individual. I would start him out just shooting the paintball marker at safe targets and teaching him marker (and gun since the rules are very similar) safety and work on his marksmanship and fire discipline. By the time he is mature enough to play, he will already have some skills to bring into the game.

This past Sunday, I was out and I beleive a 5 year old and maybe a seven year old was bought along with their father.

The five year old never played, just randomly shoot peoples markers, but the seven year old played a one on one match against his mother. He didnt want to play against the rest of us as a group because the number of people there was more then he'd ever played against.

I agree, it all depends on the kid.

I am not sure but in one of the most recent issues of APG magazine had an article about a father who took his young son out for the first time. If you can find it, read it and show it to your girlfriend.

I agree with most of the opinions expressed above and state that 10-12 years of age would be a good age to start him playing.

Good luck.

10 is the minimum age at the field I play. I do suggest just letting him play at 8 or so in the woods with people he knows. When I'm on the field, I don't stop to think about how old that little guy is, I just blast him. It's the way the game's played, and they have to be able to take it. It would also be good if you got him into proper maintenance of a gun- I've seen kids play one weekend for the first time, then their daddy bought them cockers the next weekend. they sprayed paint everywhere, and daddy kept buying more. Two weeks later, they were up there and their guns were breaking, and they didn't know what to do. The field manager was horribly busy, and sometimes he'll fix guns, but not that day. The father got pissed because he wasn't used to not being the big important guy. My guess is that he owns a business or is some bigshot with lots of money, and the fact that he was wearing a SUIT while there kinda backs that guess up.

probally around 10 in my opinion and thats mainly cause of rules most kids under that age dont seem to understand you cant do this and dont do that they do it anyway he may be able to take paintball hits at 7 or so and dish them out but playing fair may be a little challenge so id just wait till hes around 10 if its speedball just get him a little cheapy gun dunno if he will like it you could go with a really cheap spyder basic gun somethin like that

Yeash! I saw one of those games! They sell it at Target- it looks like a spyder clone, and you just plug into into the telly and you "play" paintball." There's also upgrades and different guns you can get on the game.
