Don't know if you guys heard, but London Police have just confirmed 3
more explosions in the subways and a bus. Tony Blair is going to speak at sometime.
Edit: Now I'm hearing 2 explosions and a bomb found from another source. Edited by WGP guy |

Four actually.
Initial reports say casualties are very low, with only one injury (not death) thus far. Apparently this was more a botched operation, with smaller bombs. Witnesses say that for one of the attacks on the subway... smoke came from a knapsack and the owner cursed as if something had gone wrong. We'll get more details as the day progresses, with more solidified stories (not hearsay) probably tomorrow or the day after. Until then... just piecemeal. We've got MetroTransitPD riding the trains here with MP5s. It was crowded enough when I commuted by Metro before... not sure if I'd want to ride a crowded car with my crotch facing the business end of a SMG. :) Good to have I suppose. Switched back to driving to work though... for cost and time savings, not fear of attack. |

It's really all new people *inspired* by Osama. I highly doubt Bin Laden has any official capacity other than being a folk hero these days. |

Hence... a spin-off. Again... people inspiried by Bin Laden, not necessarily people with actual contact and direction by Bin Laden. Just about any small group of extremists will label themselves as linked to al-Qaeda in one way or another. They'll be popping up a lot from here on out. |

I think it's fairly safe to say that everyone hates "terrorists", which come in all shapes and forms (not just Muslim Extremists). There are a lot of major powers out there that have had extensive experience with terrorism in general, including muslim extremists. Russia included. London is no stranger to terrorist attacks. Although in recent history, it was the IRA and not muslim extremists. As a whole, America has been fortunate enough to experience most terrorist attacks overseas, and not so much on our own soil. Exceptions being the 93 attack on the WTC, the 95 attack in Oklahoma City, and the 01 attacks. We're not used to terrorist attacks here in the states... and it shows. After the London bombings two weeks ago, London commuters were back on the buses and trains the very next day, carrying on as usual. I highly doubt Americans would do the same. As a whole... we remain way too complacent, which only amplifies the shock and chaos when an attack does occur. |

They were just botched IED's? It could have been worse if the bombs did go off like planned, then the media really would have a field day

"botched" only in that they either didn't explode, or were so small as to cause minimal damage (from what we know thus far). Apparently instead of being "suicide" bombers this time around... they tossed or left bags and ran from the scene.
But overall... even if casualties are low, and damage is minimal... they could still succeed in their mission. Number one mission of a terrorist is to instill terror. So even if their effect wasn't much physically... if it affects the way people go about their lives... they succeed. We'll see how the Londoners take it. |
