Ever heard of the word "vague?" Why don't you tell us what you have on the 98 already, how much you are willing to spend, and what other guns you are considering? |

Buy a Cyclone and it's basically an A-5. Don't upgrade to an A-5.

Just upgrade the 98c. Get a new barrel and a cyclone then just keep going from there.

why do people keep saying that the A-5 is a 98 w/ a cyclone? it definantly is not. an A-5 comes standard with a vertical adapter, enclosed rear bolt, is alot easier to clean out/ field strip, and is alot easier to upgrade with electronic or responce triggers. and of course has the cyclone. all in all, yeah the A-5 is similar in a very basic sense to the 98. however, they improved alot of the problems of the 98 and made it so you don't have to buy all the vertical adapters they made it so that you don't got holes in the rear of your gun where paint and debris can get in, and your don't got an annoying bolt flying back and forth right in your face everytime you shoot. and best of all, it actually looks more like a gun, and if your don't want a foregrip..... you don't have to take a hacksaw and chop of a huge chunk of alluminum |

But it's not a worthwhile upgrade from a 98 to an A-5.

98's are better because you dont have to mill the heck out of an a5 to make it an electric non sear tripping. The ebolt is amazing once you mod it up! I personally like halo b's over cyclones

I didn't say that he should upgrade to An A-5, all I was saying is that the A-5 is NOT the same thing as the 98. I was just commenting on posts 3-5 where they were talking about how I agree that if you already have a 98, don't bother upgrading to an A-5. I was just saying that the A-5 definitely is more than "just a 98 with a cyclone". but anyways, my suggestions to you Tippmann 9 8 is for you to stay with the 98, and give it a couple upgrades. if you really don't like having to swap out and constantly buy new bateries, go with the cyclone. as far as barrels, I would suggest Lapco Bigshot or J&J ceramic, remember, size really does not matter in terms of how accurate a barrel is..... an 8" is the same as a 12" is the same as a 16", the only diff is you end up having to use more gas to push teh ball threw a longer barrel. most of the time you really only need like 6-7 inches before the flight of the ball is gonna be straightened out.... you having a huge barrel does not really help. Now, about firepower upgrades. my suggestion is hold off on this for a little while. I don't know how long you have been playing paintball, but experiance is much more important than being able to fling out an extra 8 balls per second, yeah its nice to be able to fling some extra paint, but I wouldn't really go for a firepower upgrade unless you really think that your skills are being held back buy this. my suggestion is at first just buy a double trigger, yeah you still won't be able to get firing 15 bps, but it does help out with the bps a little bit, and it helps so your fingers don't get as tired. as for all the other stuff, I would not suggest getting a stock. stocks really don't help very much and tend to just get in the way, being able to shoulder your marker does not really help much in terms of holding your gun steady to shoot. these aren't actual guns, stocks are ment so you can absorb some the recoil of the gun. the thing is on real guns the recoil, if your just holding it without having it braced into your shoulder, gives you a ton of kickback and your aim gets thrown off mark. but really, do paintball guns really have that much recoil? no, so whats the point in having a stock? stocks really don't help very much other than for looks to make it look more like a real gun. Now, about sights, again these are pretty pointless. these again are just things to "make your gun looks cool." they really dont' help much. I admit, yeah if you look at my gun in my Signature, its got a sight on it, but I didn't go out and buy that sight for it specifically. I have that because it came stock on my first gun I had a (duck and cover!) brass eagle eradicator. man I hate that crappy gun. but it was okay for when I first started out in paintball, but anyways.... back to the sight...... I just have it on my gun in that picture because it made the gun look a little bit cooler for the picture, in fact I just put the sight on there for the picture, I didn't leave it on my gun, I just put it on there because it made it look a little cooler for the picture and I had it lying around from my eradicator, don't go out and buy a sight, they really are pointless. because in all honesty I never have time to actually use the sight. most of the time you will be sighting down the barrel, or even if you actually have time to use a sight, using the regular Iron sights works just as good. remember these aren't super accurate sniper rifles, these are guns shooting plastic balls filled with paint. when you factor in the variance of co2, and how paintballs can change in terms of flight path so easily, we are practically shooting rapid fire muskets from the civil war, and those things couldn't shoot for crap. so having a huge scope on a paintball gun is like giving a giant Flamberge Sword to a 10 yearold child. finally to the remotes and drop forwards. these really depends on if your speedball or woodsball. if you find your Co2 getting in your way sometimes, the best way to get it out of your armpit is to use either a drop forward or a remote. for speedball, I suggest getting a drop forward. for woods, get a remote. so if you find your co2 getting in your way, consider one of these, also remember that a remote practically acts as an expansion chamber because if forces the co2 to go through all that extra cable before entering the gun, so it has the same effect as having an expansion chamber. sorry for the huge post, Its a really bad habit of mine, sorry guys. I hope this helps in some way Tippmann 9 8 Edited by Snick - 23 May 2006 at 7:02am |

depends on the drop. typically around maybe I donno.... 20ish... give or take, and depending on if they already have an ASA on therm or not. but really you could make one just as easy by bending a flat metal strip and then puting holes in it for the nuts and bolts.
