Topic: Removing the Tank AdapterPosted: 19 June 2006 at 1:43pm |

I'm setting up a drop forward and need to remove the tank adapter.
I'm having some serious troubles getting that thing off. Anyone have some suggestions as to how I can get that off so I can put the hose into my new drop forward? Thanks! |

No... not talking about the part that goes into the tombstone. Talking about the Tank Adapter (02-06 part) that goes into the grip. I need to figure out how to either get the gas line out of the 90 degree elbow or the elbow out of the tank adapter.
Thanks |

oh...ok use a wrench that will fit it and unscrew..if that didn't work try heating it up with a torch because it may have thread locker on it and heating it up will melt the thread locker

a torch, hrmm, don't know if I have one of those... Any recommendations for someone who doesn't have a torch :)
I have a dremel and a soldering iron, that's it I'm asuming I need to buy some of that "thread locker" from a hardware store to put back on when I put it into my dead-on drop forward Edited by stormlifter - 19 June 2006 at 2:34pm |

If you have the ASA removed from the bottom of the grip, you can turn on a burner on the kitchen stove top, let the burner get hot, then lay the ASA on it until it becomes hot (30 seconds to 2 minutes). Wearing a pair of gloves to keep from burning your hands, a Vise Grip on the ASA and the proper fitting wrench on the hose fitting should screw things right apart. Temperature of the ASA really does not have to be that hot. (actually about 300 to 350 degrees F). If you go too hot, the plastic/rubber hose that is inside the steel braid may melt. Be sure to keep the braided hose away...only laying the ASA actually on the burner. |

Or with his hose totally borked. I know I'd screw that up for sure. |

Try the old loose tooth trick. Tie one end of some dental floss around the adapter, and the other end of the floss to a doorknob. Hold the hose, and get someone to slam the door. Lemme know if it works. |

Just get a crescent wrench and a vise with some rags in it so you don't scratch the ASA.
I did it with my HAND and a crescent wrench... Edited by pooperscooper - 19 June 2006 at 9:39pm |

Got her off! WooT! She came right off after I gave her a little heat. Now I just have to wrap it with some tape and she's ready for my nitro tank :)

great now a whole new set of problems, darn drop forward won't keep the air in. I put thread tape on everything and when I screw the on/off in to let the air flow it just leaks everywhere. I got this drop forward used so I'm asuming that there must be an o-ring somewhere or something.
Anyone have an idea of what to do? |
