It should be very easy. Everyone gets scared. I like to mess with things so I tend to open up my gun before I even get to use it. As long as you have memory, it will be extremely easy to put everything back where it belongs. The only thing you really have to worry about is to make sure the back bolt stop stays on the left receiver half and not the one you take off (right). Also keep the feedneck on so you don't risk losing the front site spring.

Just pay attention to how everything comes apart, and take your time. Sounds like your on the right track. In my opinion it's not that hard. I have respect for your curiosity and willingness to learn. If you have any problems we have your back. Good luck and remember take your time!

I have not polished mine. But some will tell you it makes all the difference in the world. Others will say it is pointless. I do know that if you get carried away (polishing) you can really screw up the tolerance's for your guns internals. If you do decide to try it remember there is a right way and a wrong way to do it! My best advice would be to do a search on this. As far as the A.C.T goes...no the rod is found on all 98's (model or custom). First, did your gun's package have a blue sticker on it that said A.C.t equipped? Second, Do you have two springs in the rear of the gun (upper and lower)? the lower is the drive spring the upper is for the A.C.T. Watch this!

sry by rod i mean "linkage arm" as it says in the manual and mine is not bent like the one in the diagram and if i stick my finger in the hopper hole like a pb it would definately break a ball and it has no springs on top of the main bolt spring if that makes sense so what do u think? Edit: oh and on the package i did not notice an act oval, but i got the gun only a few days before this last christmas and the manual said act on it Edited by nathanours - 02 February 2007 at 1:28am |

First stop sticking your finger in the hopper hole ( a.k.a the feed port) and pulling the trigger!!! That hurt didn't it
! Second in my opinion you don't have A.C.T. I'm going to guess, but did your gun come from a department store like Wal-mart or K-mart? I have a friend who bought one and his manual was printed to cover the change over from non A.C.T to current. Don't worry about it though, you still have one of the most reliable markers ever made. Also the non A.C.T markers have a little bit higher rate of fire (less friction). Edited by TIPPY98ACT - 02 February 2007 at 1:47am |

i got mine from a sporting good store for 120 dollars for the whole kit with mask goggles and tank thats probably why it was cheap also does the grey oring need to be right behind the bolt or against the back plastic plug? oh and i didnt just stick my finger in and pull the trigger lol i just held the trigger down and pulled the bolt back and lowred it down on my finger to see if it could break a ball oh and i got everything back to gether fine, but i was unsure of where the grey oring went so i put it agianst the black plastic plug but if i am wrong i can easily switch it and do balls break alot in 98s without act?

You should not have a lot or if any ball breakage under normal operation. Unless you start doing mods like the R/T (Response trigger) or E-trigger (Electronic trigger). Please use the search button if you have questions about what they do before you post about them. Nothing personnel but they have both been covered many times over.

If you have a large Rubber Maid tub thing, take it apart over it. Collecting tiny parts is easier out of a bucket than rolled halfway across tile floor or digging a spring from carpet.

I think you are talking about what is called the buffer o-ring. It goes between the rear bolt and end cap. It provides a (cushion) for the rear bolt. It doesn't have a place for it to seat. It floats between the two. Look at the manual or digram you have.

Before you test I'd put that rear/buffer o-ring back in where it belongs if it already isn't.

You shouldn't have any leakage problems because I doubt you messed with the hoses.
