    Posted: 27 June 2010 at 11:49pm
What do you guys think if a player is hit in the bottle they are wearing on a vest in a molle . If gun hits don't count. but the ball broke.
I say it's a hit. If the bottle was not in the pouch it is a solid back hit. It's attached to your body at that point.

Can't say that this area of a players back doesn't count but it counts on a player that has his bottle screwed into his gun.

Makes sense? Let me know guys.

I play that all hits (gun, pack, body, mask) count. Never had a problem.

Yeah we never did ti some one wanted to not count gun hits.
Then there is the back hit that they can't see if it broke so they don't say any thing.

All direct hits count is easiest. Spray doesn't count, otherwise fair game.

Yup.

The ONLY thing I'd agree with is you might not feel a hit on a tank.

SO call for a ref to check him.

If you got hit, you got hit.

Its a hit. No question.
In fact, many of the games I've played the rules have been laid out pretty clearly-

"Any hits to your body or equipment count."

It eliminates any gray area. That's why most of the games I've played, they laugh at the idea of 'no gun hits'

The most ludicrous thing about no gun hits is you can cover and area with spray and pray, but not get Out? Hell no. If you carried it onto the field and it gets hit you are out, whatever it is.

I agree with you all. Some players are trying to say if we are playing no gun hits. Which we agree to. Then the tank on the back is considered part of the gun. Since other players will have the tank on the gun and if they get hit in tank won't count.

That is why playing 'no gun hits' sucks- there's too much room for sissies to argue that they aren't out because of some gray area. If I were you, the next time you play, tell them to stop acting like they learned how to play paintball from the local Brownie troop and play it right- then there's no debate about it.

If its a pickup game and there's no refs, then you need to make the rules clear, and with no wiggle room, or you'll always have some jerk wasting valuable play time debating the legitimacy of a hit based on where it was, what got hit, the color of the paint, or the time of day.

Screw 'em. All hits count. Always.

If they INSIST in playing 'no gun hits' - then every single time you shoot someone, bonus ball them 7 or 8 times, and use the excuse 'I just wanted to make sure I was hitting YOU, and not your gear." .....in fact, I think that everybody who argues for a 'no gun hit' game should be double or triple tapped. This way, later on, they'll be much happier about walking off the field when their hopper gets hit rather than having to nurse half a dozen welts.

I bet their tune changes after they've been bonus balled into oblivion a couple of times.

Hmm, I have played some different rules or twisted rules. Leg hits, you can't walk or run...you crawl but still in the game.  Arm or hand hits..you cant use that arm or hand.  The gun hit twist went like this, If you were hit in the gun, you had to leave the field, get to the dead box and swap guns with another player who was out. Different fields with different rules.

Double post: (Not related to anything)
Saw your sig.....how do you like the 68 carbine? I've got one that I've been using for years, I traded a fully modded 98 for it, and never looked back. She leaks like hell right now, but its one of the best markers I've ever owned.

If you're playing on a field, then obviously field rules apply- but if its a pickup game somewhere, without referees to have the final call on things, you need to be absolutely clear about things from the start or you're going to end up wasting all kinds of time for stupid reasons.

I haven't played on a "pay for play" field in 2 years, Reb.  All of ours are outlaw games over the Island. The first thing any host group does is go over safety and rules.  Some rules are modified for game play purposes.

Let me rephrase then.

As long as the rules of ANY game, pickup, play, tournament, whatever, are clearly spelled out and there's no room for argument by anyone, you're okay.
This is why saying "all hits count, shut up and play" is easiest, because you don't spend half your day trying to make an excel spreadsheet for every scenario.

Do gun hits count?
What about splatter bigger than a nickel?
Whose got a nickel?
Leg shots, can't run?
What about being barrel tapped?
If I'm shot in the butt while taking a leak?

Amending rules for specific scenarios is just fine, as long as they're also clear.

I'm in a horribly disagreeable mood today. I feel like I could argue with anyone over anything today.
Perhaps I should stay away from this forum today.

Its a combination of things really. I'm 2 days (maybe 3 if I don't get one of the days off I asked for) away from a 600 mile road trip for our first vacation in over a year. I'm planning that, and since I'm so close to leaving, my productivity and patience it shot. Plus, the kid's cutting his molars making life hell for everyone involved, and there's no windows where I'm working today.

I'm praying HV or jmac don't see this now...those two always know just what buttons to push to make me degenerate into infantile argumentativeness.  (<-that's really a word)
