This is not a rant about the problem, nor my demanding a solution or politically related assault on policy, wars, or any of that. It's merely the relation of a short story that resulted in no small amount of ire on this very day.

This morning, when I got in my gas chugging Chevy Blazer, I glanced at the gas gauge and take note that I've got a little less than a quarter of a tank of fuel. I figure on filling up this afternoon. Driving into work, I pull into the local gas station for my morning coffee and happen to take note of the price of one gallon of gas here in Windham, NY. $3.43

So now, rather than fill up my tank this afternoon, I plan on driving as far from my little mountain town as my remaining gas will allow me to get in the hopes that the surrounding areas aren't so stupidly insane.

I hate to ask, but what are you all paying? Thanks to NY state taxes, I run my tank until its almost empty hoping that the price will dip a little before I have to push myself down the road. It never does. When we get my wife's little Toyota corolla back from her parents, we'll be using that for damn near everything.

I have made the prediction that the state of New York will never EVER see the price of one gallon of gasoline dip below $3.00 again.

/sad little story.

State average is $3.09 for regular, so it's about $3.29 for the family cars that need to run on premium.

$3.29 (I think) for regular here in Milwaukee at the moment.  Our gas is usually pricier than most.

It figures someone from NJ would wander in here and kick my day in the junk just a little harder. Whenever I'm down at my In-laws in Harriman NY, we jump the border to fill up.

A friend of mine working for a trucking company is worried about possibly being laid off due to the diesel prices affecting the profit margin of the company.

I hope it gets better by the time the summer rolls around. The wife and I will be riding I-90 back from our trip out west this July.

Also in Connecticut, anywhere from 3.23/gal  in Waterbury to 3.40/gal in Hamden. I'm just glad I don't run anything on diesel, we are up to 4.09/gal of diesel.

I was in New Jersey on Sunday and filled up at 3.09/gal and it was full service. It's sad that I find that a good deal.

I did the litre/gallon and $CAD/USD conversion... We're paying about $4.12 or so at today's exchange rate.

Yesterday it was $3.29.

The BP oil refinery right by me is losing something close to $0.15 a gallon they sell.  At least they were a few days ago.

Sometime in July, yeah. We're taking a more southern route to get out to the Pacific, then hitting I-90 in Washington and coming back, since it runs all the way back to NY.

The fun part is, its still a vastly unplanned trip. "Drive west until we hit water. Come back" We're stopping in Chicago to see a friend of mine and we're going to see the redwoods in Cali.....but that's all we've got on the itinerary thus far.
