Homebrew drop FWD and RT system (56k ok)

I decided that I cannot afford to spend too much money on my paintball gun because I'm going off to college soon, but I really want an RT system for my gun and a drop forward because the gun is too long already.  So, I went off to Lowes set on making a system for less than $10... This is what I came up with.





As you can see, it is a very simple design.

It uses a 1/2" copper pipe piece with two endcaps. One endcap is drilled to accomidate the plunger. The other is drilled to accomidate the fitting. The fittings are from the irrigation section of lowes where they have grass watering stuff. I used a T fitting in that one section so I could thread a bolt in there to control the airflow to the piston and so I could shut if off if I wanted to. The tube is 8 cents a foot in the plumbing section. The 1/2" end caps I used fit perfectly in the little slot in the handle, so I didnt need to reshape them or anything. The plunger is a piece of rubber I found bolted to an aluminum stud post I got in the lowes hardware section. I figured aluminum was better because it is lighter and can probably reciprocate faster. Instead of using the stock spring to reset the trigger, I put a very light pushing spring inside the piston to keep the piston against the trigger and to reset it if the piston is turned off.

I do need to get a double finger trigger now because the trigger guard interferes with the movement of the piston. When this is all done, I should be able to walk the trigger pretty quickly.

I also made myself a little drop forward out of some plastic I bought on ebay a while ago.  Basically, I cut out the shape with a jig saw and filed it down, then sanded it and put it over the stove a little bit to get it smoother. 



As you can see, it balances right on the trigger guard.  I took those pics 2 days ago, since then the bolts have been fixed and nuts have been integrated into the drop forward. 

It took a little modding, but I'm pretty happy with the results. If you would like a more detailed picture of something on the system, I can do it for you.

That is really something killernoodle. How fast does your Response trigger fire?

P.S. Great Mod , All you have to make now is an Electric Hopper!

No, actually it was quite easy. Basically, if you have a little patience and $10 you can do this mod, it doesnt require any special tools besides a drill and possibly a dremel. 

I'll write a how-to guide on the forums either sometime today or maybe tomorrow.

Does your copper "body" fit inside the receivers correctly? What I mean does your plunger goes back and forth straight?

If not, I will go to the machine shop and fab you one if you need it, just give me the spec's...

The flow control tubing needs to be cleaned up some..but what you did is nicely done...

The copper pipe fits in the reciever PERFECTLY.  I couldnt have made it fit better WITH a lathe :D.  I fixed the tubing so now it is tight, but you will need to take a dremel with a grinding wheel (the cylinder one, very small diameter) to the little plunger guide so that it slides freely. Yes, the entire system feels solid, and I can feel the RT working its magic (kinda), but my tanks are so drained that I'm maxing 180fps with the adjustment screw all the way out, so it is about time to fill the tanks.  My friend has a CO2 filling station at his house, but no CO2, so it may take a while.

There has to be a 90° fitting going into the power tube/valve assembly (I think the tapped hole is #6-32, but I'm not sure).

Also the flow control line going into the brass tubing: what's keeping the tubing from falling out as the pressure gets higher?

The piston thing gotta move freely inside the brass tubing...not much pressure needs to push the piston out, but also beware that no c02/air should escape PAST the piston as well (is the piston is positioned straight of course).

Just curious, but overall its a nice job.
