Once again I need help with computers.

Well, I decided after the trouble Halo is giving me (mostly it doesnt want to run) because of my graphics card and realizing that a Voodoo 3 graphics card might be a wee bit outdated, considering the company which made it went bankrupt years ago, I have decided it might be time to move on.

Money isnt too much of an issue (I think my parents will pay for it, but I dont want to push it).  I need to know what you guys recomend as a good graphics card and where to buy it.

Thanks!

Well, that is my intention eventually, but it helps if I have an idea of what to buy, rather then walking into a store and picking something at random.

I'd recomend a 9800 pro.

For $200, it's a great card, and will run Halo quite nicely.  Also comes with a few games you want might want to waste some time on.

If you want to spend a little less, take a look at a 9600 Xt.  Around 160, but it comes with a HL2 key.

Granted the 9800 pro performs a lot better, but it's your money, not mine.

AGP isn't a brand... it's a type of videocard

Do you know if you have an AGP slot on your motherboard?

Then again, I don't know if they made PCI voodoo 3s....

*edit* they did make PCI versions, so make sure you have an AGP slot before looking at a new videocard.

btw, what is your cpu?

CPU-central processing unit
Mobo-Motherboard
GPU-Graphics processing unit
PSU-Power supply unit
Ram/memory-exactly what it states
HD-hard drive

alright, quality is money.  what is your price range?  if you DONT have a price range..here ya go

cpu-amd athalon 64 3200+ (i know theres 3700+ but this is more resonable)

mobo-asus k8v (via chipset version, the nvidia chipset version has
problems with fitting in some ATX cases, and the location of the slots.

gpu-nvidia 6800 ultra 256meg ddr3

psu-thermaltake silent purepower 560W

ram-corsair extreme low latency 256x2 (256x2=1 gigabyte) (look around)

HD-western digital 100gig, or 200 if you ahve the moeny or need the space

cpu heatsink-Thermaltake venus 12 CPU cooler

www.newegg.com  is probably the best online computer goods retailer of all time.  great shipping, ram lifetime warrenty...a huge selection.  just look around there, but what i gave you is what i was planning on getting, but im cant remember if thats the ram i wanted

the x800 can blow me  i like the nvidia because its what ive used for years, and serves me well.  im not putting down the x800, but the 6800 ultra has pixel shader 3.0 which totaly blows away 2.0 if you have seen some of the screen shots IMO

Go into a store, blindfolded, spin around and throw a dart, or axe, and whatever it hits, or is closest to, buy that. If it hits a person, ask them their opinion as well.
