I love you guys saying how we don't use bayonets in the military anymore. Haha. Right. Bull**edited**. Granted, it's not going to be often that you need it, but if you DO need it, having it there is a hell of a nice thing.

At this point I'll point you to the movie We Were Soldiers. That bayonet charge at the end of the battle. That DID occur, more or less as portrayed. A bayonet is nice in close quarters fights as another way to mangle the enemy, when accurate shooting may not be practical- like on the run. It also helps pin him in place so you can shoot him easier if you care to take your time.

Humans seem to have a primal urge to stab each other, and the combination of knives and fully automatic weapons was a great day in the history of warfare. Another example I'll point to is that story out of Iraq recently about a scottish unit that got ambushed. I don't have the link, but more or less it was 20 infanteers from one of the highland units that got shot up on a highway. They ditched out of the vehicles, and got to the side of the road, pinned down. Within a half hour, there were about a hundred iraqis moving into position to surround them, and support was still a ways off. So what did they do? With a William Wallace-like efficiency, they fixed bayonets, started screaming, and charged across the road. Thirty five dead, and 65 frightened Iraqis later, there were two wounded scottish soldiers, 18 that were just fine, and a few buildings that had been routed of insurgents.

Now don't tell me that in real life bayonets are useless. They are still very much in servie. In paintball, though, it's an idiotic idea.

For that matter, I want paintball throwing knives. I think I'll buy a pack of Crayola markers and write 'THROWING KNIFE' on each one, and keep them in my pocket. And in my next woods game, I'm gonna rent a firefighting aircraft, and conduct a Paint Airstrike.

If you're that close to a guy that you can stab him... just shoot him! And remember, anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Shoot til they calll themselves hit.

There's actually a certain satisfaction in getting a 'prisoner', or having someone surrender to you. Anyone can get a guy with a lucky shot, but actually ebing close enough and good enough to be in a position to demand a surrender just can't help but make you smirk.

Then again, there's certainly a lot to be said for just shooting him. :P

so i think it's been settled. no paint knife ever since you can just light up the poor guy that is inches away. then laugh about it later.

My brother is in the army and they did bayonet training, it was this last summer that he was at basic. I still don't think we should use them in paintball. It is more fun shooting a guy anyway.

well, in a scenerio game, say you have a mission to sneak into a base un noticed. Well the sound of a shot is going to alert the people. True its fun to shoot the hell out of people, but when theres say a 10 foot rule and you dont want to alert the enemy, then you can come up behind someone and kill them with the knife. No shots fired to alert enemies further in. ONLY in a scenerio game would it be cool and if you dont think so and flame me or call me a n00b for saying that then whatever.

i guess you've got a point that it would work ONLY in scenario for some special occasions/missions but otherwise.. its useless.

I just draw my pistol and place it nicely against the back of their head... nothing like cold aluminum to make a kid surrender.

Put a plastic one or somethin on there for a scenario if you want. That's all I could see a use for it.

i disagree i don tthink you could get within 7-10 feet of the person unless their really stupid or your extremely stealthy
