Ok, this may and prolly will sound heartless but I am really really gettin tired and kinda angry about all this "OMG save the poor people in Phuket that got hit by the big wavez0rz!!!!!". On top of the annoying "Help the Victims" crap I see everywhere since all of that crap happened the US government has pledged a billion dollars and a crap load of military assistance while we have bigger stuff to worry about. I mean seriously, we have two underfunded wars in which our boys in uniform are buying their own body armor and digging trough junk yards to find scrap metal to protect themselves in their thin skinned hummers, we have a national debt that people on both sides of the political fence keep screaming about, and incase you haven't noticed we have enough people in this country that need help, rather they are picking meds over food or out of the job for the past or just too poor to have a decient life. And we're giving them a billion dollars? What the crap is that? I know it's supposed to win hearts and minds of all the people in the world that hate us but to me, looking at history and all we've done for other countries in the past, it just doesn't seem like it will work. And besides that when is the last time the government just handed our a billion dollars to our citizens? Never. So untill that happens and there aren't people living in boxes on our streets in our cities then I will never support anything like this. Thats why I didn't support going into Iraq. I know we would benefit from a democracy in the mideast but why can't we just let them handle their own crap. To me if they're stuck under an evil dictatorship it's their obligation to get out from under it and topple it...not ours. We are too freakin nice to the rest of the world for how crappy they are to us and I really believe that we should stop spending our money on all this other crap untill things are perfect here and we are far from that point now.

I understand what you are saying but seriously. If it happened
to us, wouldn't you want other countries donating money to help us? Seriously man, where's your heart? |

My heart is having a drink with my head. Also, do you really think that if that happened in the U.S. ANYONE would give us a billion dollars?

You're right - That is really insensitive. The rest of the world thinks Americans are greedy, selfish pigs who don't know how good they've got it and are always finding something to complain about. You just proved them right. Congrats. We're at war in Iraq. Tough, but it wouldn't be the first time. What you fail to realize is one of the reasons America is not at war in Russia, Germany, Japan, africa and hundreds of other countries around the globe is because of those relief efforts you seem to care so little about. This "us first and screw everyone else" attitude is something I'd expect from someone in France, not an American. Edited by Slimz.357 |

You wanna go all bleeding heart on me? Ok, go out to one of those people sleeping on the street with newspaper blankets and tell them that someone in asia deserves a house and food and education more than they do. Thats unsensitive.

My perfect world? Thats my point, my world isn't perfect and my people are paying to make their world better. I never said 150k dead isn't a big deal but there are other big deals that need to be dealt with.
ps I'm very aware how far in debt we are and how much people scream and cry about it, that was part of my point. Edited by .Ryan |

Homeless people in America got there because they deserve it. They got addicted to drugs because they chose to start. They don't live in a shelter because either they've gotten kicked out of too many for staying out past curfew or misbehaving, or are just too lazy/drunk to find one.
Do you think these people CHOSE to have a Tsunami crush entire villages? Answer that one for me. I just lost a lot of respect for you. |

Look i do see both sides of the issue. I do see, why we get dragged into things, because ex. we'll help some third world country get under a dictators rule and then hand them the control and they'll use it against us. I mean my brother is over in iraq whos a intelligence officer and he does drive a hummer too and you do think that if we start something we need to finish it before other things. On the other hand if we didn't do any of those things then ANY help we might receive would never come toward us. I think sometimes America wants to prove we're not selfish but doing so much, i just like the finish what starts first idea

On top of that, "Screw the Victims"??? WHAT THE **edited**? I didnt even see the title, just followed here on a link given to me. Screw the victims? What in the **edited** are you thinking? I absolutely cannot believe your level of shelfishness. While I don't want to get all "bleeding heart" on you, I really have to say it, but how would you feel if your entire city got crushed, and your entire family just died. Swept away in an instant? Would you just say, "Ah, screw it. I don't need help."?? Christ. |

Yes but people fail to notice is that its OUR debt, we dont own any of that to other countries, its just what we are in. One day no on is going to care about money because we are so far in national dept, like it matters anyways, we can call it even one day and nobody is going to do anything aobut it. So really the trillions of dollars, is only a number, really it is. debt clock Edited by ThEeViLcHiCkEn |

Jag: I agree with the fact that we should finish Iraq if for no other reason than the 1200 whatever dead soldiers would have died for nothing but I don't agree with depensing American blood and gold to help other stupid little countries that hate us anyway with their problems.
Jugg: For a person with a heart you sure do make a lot of generalizations. And as for your question. I don't care. That has no standing in my logic. Bad stuff happens all the time all over the world but that doesn't mean we should have to fix it. My friends house got flooded out a couple of days ago and they pretty much lost everything. I don't see France coming and rebuilding it for them. Too bad for Rose Bud Ohio huh? Well, too bad for Phucket too. |

Go back to France. If your gonna sit there and tell me that charity, kindness, and putting someone else before yourself is wrong or stupid, then you seriously don't belong here. |

i kinda see where you are comming from, i mean no one helped us when we
got attacked. But also rembember, the countries were helping cant pay
for anything alone. If we were helping like oh say germany. Id be
pissed becuase they never helped us.

*sigh*Juggs, the title was meant to be a parody of the one that was stickied. And uhh, I may be shellfish but I really do believe that my government should take care of my people first. Sue me.

True enough on an individual level, but how do you explain the billions of dollars in relief funds that our Govt. gives away every year. One of the reasons countries like Japan and Germany aren't still trying to kill us is because we helped them (and still do) clean up after the war, and after their various national tragedies. It's smart governement. You scratch my back i'll scratch yours. I won't be posting here for a while. If you have a problem, PM me. Edited by Slimz.357 |

.ryan do you even know the storys of homeless people? yes some have had bad luck and if they had money for a new start they would be able to make it but alot wouldent
i know a few people that have been homeless and had a chance to make something of them self but they just drank away there money im not talking about a few hundred dollars eather ive seen people get 10,000 US$ handed to them and end up in a homeless shelter a few months later a close friend of my famaly won a law suit and walked away with 120,000$ in his pocket and is now living in a trailer...this is the 3rd or 4th time he has won lawsuits and walked away with over 100,000$ i would much rather see the $ going into rebuilding a country than going into the pockets of drunks...not saying things like homless shelters shouldent be funded or anything but i think they should have to do something to prove they deserve it. |
