Your paint may have stated to freeze, making it brittle. Plus recently marbs have been degrading. Last time I used marbs, the paint was halfway decomposed and broke every few shots, it was coated in broken down shell slime, and shot like crap if it did manage to leave the barrel. Keep your paint warm. Some companies produce winter paint, which has a thicker shell to deter the effects of cold weather.

What was that? And, they were likely correct--your paintballs probably froze. There is a chance, however, that you installed your flatline incorrectley... but at 30*, that's 2* below freezing... your paintballs probably became brittle or froze... |

The temperature may have made your balls a little swollen.

I agree that the temperature was most likely the cause of your
problems. Tippmann guns aren't exactly known for being gentle with
paint so when it gets cold and the paint shells get more brittle,
you'll start to break more often. My A5 never chops normally but there
was one day when it was about 30* and I was chopping like every 5
shots. It was really horrible and I couldn't figure out why the gun was
doing it because everything was how it should be. I tried the gun out a
few days later after letting the paint sit inside to warm up and the
problem went away. I would recommend Xball paint if you're not having
much luck with RPS. I got Xball for $40/case at a local store and it
shot great. Not one break and it fit the bigshot perfectly. It's a
fairly new brand but I think it's made by the same people that make
draxxus paint. Try it out sometime.

Yeah when you play in cold weather you should use nitro or HPA so this won't happin that much.

i am hving some serious problems with my 98. I've had it for about a year now and used it maybe 10 times, the first 1 or 2 were fine, but the next couple times drove me crazy. I had a ball break every other shot and when the balls did come were at about 180 fps with the velocity turned all the way up. my friend has a 98 and he used his more than me but his works almost like new. It doesnt always eat balls like that it must have been b/c of the cold, but since the 2nd or 3rd time i used it, it hasnt gotten over 200 fps. I just put a new spring kit in it,and its a little better (210). another think is it doesnt seem nearly as loud as my friends. i was told it was the spring but that didnt do it. if you could help me that would be great. thx Edited by jrod1321 |

Jrod, start a new thread please. You'll get much more help that way and
you won't have to take attention away from the topic starter's issue. I
would suggest trying a different tank and inspecting your internals for
damage. If this happened after you recently took your gun apart then
you may have put the ball detent in backwards which nearly everybody
has done before. That will definitely cause problems for you. Make sure
the gun is clean and oiled too. If it's very cold out then go light on
the oil since the cold weather will make it thicken. Also, try to keep
the paint as close to room temperature as possible and it shouldn't
cause any problems.

Condensation made balls slightly swell or if you gravity feeding be sure your not firing too fast, I do it all the time.
