Anyone polishing the inside of their barrel with Rain-X? I hear it helps clear busted paint. The lead ref where I play says you can often flip your gun upside down and blast almost all the glop out of your barrel with out squeegying or swabbing. I don't suppose it would hurt to try. I was just curious if anyone had tried it?

Hmmmm. That is interesting. How would you apply the stuff to the barrel?

sounds like it will work. if it did, that would be very helpfull. but would it have any effect on the balls normal flight? will it make it better because of a slicker surface? definatly something to consider though.

I dont think it would work for the flatline. Doesnt the surface of the barrel help create "back spin"? If the rainx made the inside of the barrel slick then no backspin. Right?

i flipped my gun over that sot everything out and it worked for about 15 shots.another way i did it was to take off your barrel then hold it so that a ball will shoot into it without being screwed in.it did something and blew everything out and it worked great after that. |

Yep , Xspyderman , you hit upon an "Old Skoolers" type of Lore there , any treatment will work , some better than others . I have heard of many applying treatments such as "Mothers Mag and aluminum " polish to their bores , along with Rain-X , Car polishs , and my favorite , LPS waterbased silicone . I have never heard anything negative from any users of these , but have had a lot of doubtful comments from those that havent tried anything . I leave it to you to make up your own mind there . With most of the products , you apply it (such as wax,or polish ) and hope for the best (they all help with cleaning up barrel breaks,or chops , but what I prefer with the silicone treatment is this,, along with providing a semi durable bore treatment ,its instantly renewable just by carrying a Swab that has been saturated with the stuff , and inbetween games , I can just pull the swab thru a couple times , and be good to go again (the swab even works if it is completely dry , so I keep a couple swabs in my shooting kit ,in a baggie for just those occasions ) I am an "Old School" player , by most of this forums definitions' ROFL !! I shoot a pump against speedball players , I "Powder" my leftover balls to keep them fresh , I clean my marker after everyday of playing . I learned the game of paintball on less than a Shoestring . some of these guys Blow more on a marker than I have , playing for a whole year (Not jealous , just astounded !!,,, ok, just a bit jealous !! ) But to the subject of your post , It does work for barrels that have Raw aluminum as the bore surface (such as the SL68-II , and others ) , the improvement isnt as marked for anodized bores and such , but its still noticable ! Best way to guage the effectiveness of a bore treatment ,is shoot it , before and after over a Chronograph , look for average velocity , and any increases (or decreases) in velocity without adjusting your velocity adjustment . Look for consistency Utmost , after that , them High dollar 'Cockers and such is just Fodder Fer your Sights ! |

I dont know the viscosity of RainX but as long as it cant/wont "goop-up" and stays smooth in the barrel there is no reason why it doesnt. But in my experience all the after marker barrels I've used, with the exception flatline, that they are smooth enough that if you get a barrel break or even a bolt break you can flip the marker over and dry fire cleans the barrel enough to continue the game, might not get it perfectly clean but good enough.
This doesnt work so well for flatline. With the bend turing it upside and firing doesnt clean it up much in the least, and I'm fairly sure polishing it out would effect the performance. If I remember correctly from when I owned one the top halve was a little more rough then the bottem *edit* I just noticed that Shadowminion pretty much answered everything before I did, resulting in a complete waste of time on my part, and an equal waste of time on yours for reading, exspecially this dribble I tacked on the end. wow... havent heard this one for months. It does work abit i have seen it. And its not a bad idea i guess, just make sure you dont use to much !!! and also clean it out every game using HOT water. But performance depends on the kind of paint quality ur using.

Only thing to add is I've also seen people use break-free on their barrels. (Long fuzzy swab sprayed with it.) Just be careful not to get any on the O-rings; some of those chemicals will eat them up.

i wouldent put anything in the barrels... as long as you clean them good paint wont stick and you can shoot out broken rounds. just wash good with hot water and run a clean squege through it.
