I just purchased a flatline for my a-5 and it doesn't seem to be much better than the GTA 14 inch sniper barrel. I tried turning the velocity screw up/down every which way and it didn't seem to help. Also i hope this doesn't sound as stupid as the old question "my flatline came bent" , but the inside of the barrell seems to have a rough lining inside it is that how it is supposed to be? I know I have shot a 98 custom and and if I remember correctly it was smooth inside. Hope someone can help. Thanks

it's supposed to be rough, that's how it puts back spin on the ball
About one month until I can get my FIRST Tippmann. A-5 w/ Flatline, R/T, and some form of HPA bottle.

It is supposed to shoot like 250 ft. Thats what it says on the flatline page of tippmann.com.

I damned near choked on that one , LOL 250 feet ?!? more like an extra 50 feet at the most .

The barrel bore should be rough , as was said previously , thats how it puts backspin on the paintball , but at the recommended velocity (270 FPS ) , most if not all , quality barrels will deliver comparable performance , (minus the aerodynamic advantage of distance , maybe ) .

Go to webdogradio.us for an informative , and comprehensive comparison of barrels . they exclude the flatline in their evaluation , but 100 - 130 feet is Max for any barrel at the same velocity .

SL68-II , micro honed and polished .688" bore . Tuff Enuf .
Widowmaker , under construction

Yes the barrel should be rough, that’s how they designed it and the only way it works.
But the question should be what is the effective range.
The flatling has two "ranges", one you can call "ball travel range" and the other the "effective range"\
"Ball travel range" works this way.
With a flatline, if installed correctly, zero wind, being held perfectly straight, while rubbing your tummy, and patting your head, while quoting Pi to all decimal places the ball will travel close to 250ft. Now if you cant do all of the above then you are looking at a max distance of the ball hitting the ground at 200ft. Now if you actually want to hit something taller then a foot or two you are looking at a range of 175 - 200 feet. Now if you actually want the ball to break on what you’re shooting at. Keep reading.
Effective Range:
Effective range is how far the flatline will propel the ball and it still having enough energy to break on a person with out them saying "I think a fly passed wind on me" while the ball harmlessly bounces off him and rolls to the ground, giving away your position and allowing his buddies who you havent seen yet light you up like a Christmas tree.
To get a range of 150-175 and have the ball break you don’t need rub your tummy or know Pi. But it still needs to be a still day. At that point the ball has slowed down enough that its just merely floating and that fly that passed wind on your previous target could redirect the ball off course and the ball will float right pass the guy, he'll notice let his buddies know where you are and once again you're a Christmas tree.
So if you play in real world conditions with wind, flatulent flies and not knowing Pi past a few digits, you're looking at a range of 150ft, and that is still only if you have enough competence to install the barrel right and hold it straight up and down so the ball wont curve off to the sides. So really the effective range of the flatline is only 125-150 feet. Which is only 25-50 feet farther then a straight barrel.
If you want my opinion, I suppose you do since you've read this far, save yourself 10 bucks get a full pipe kit from county paintball ( convient link )and learn how to sneek up a few more feet and hit the guy at 100 ft or less. And whatch out for the pesky buddies of your target, they've already eliminated you twise
