i am opening a new field.

           Regardless of the theme and props you may utilize, there are certain things that are universal in their importance, some of them being:

Safety – Is your field safe?  Are boundaries clearly marked (woodsball), or netting (speedball) intact?   Players will remember insufficient safety enforcement at a field and it will discourage them from bringing new players, or even playing there themselves again.  Parents will not let their kids play if they hear about, or directly observe obvious safety violations.  Of the designated areas where masks have to be worn, are these areas clearly marked?  What will be your policy on enforcing the safety rules?  Failure to make safety an absolute priority will guarantee that this endeavor will crash and burn, not to mention open you up for litigation.

Organization – Will there be enough staff to assist with tasks at hand?  Besides reffing, will there be personnel to pick up the residual garbage throughout the day?  Players consume drinks and snacks throughout the day and even though they are responsible for leaving trash behind, they will remember a field that is constantly strewn with debris. Sad, I know.  The field I normally play at has a team of individuals whose main focus is to keep the staging and setup areas neat and orderly.   

On that issue, will there be drinks and such available for sale?  Will there be technical staff available to assist with a marker problem?

Regarding the above two issues, I look at them with a microscope when I select a field to play at. 

That having been said, you also have to consider the following:

Local Issues – Will the traffic coming in and out cause a problem?  Will there be sufficient parking?  Is the area zoned for such a venture?  Is there a possibility that errant pantballs may find there way to neighboring structures or property?

Business Issues – What is your projected ROI on this?  Will your costs exceed any revenue you receive?  Opening a field costs money (obviously) and you have to be prepared for the possibility that there may be times that operating costs exceed what you take in, Wintertime for example.  That is unless you live in an area that is warm most of the time!    

As your field may not be open or completely set up yet, these are things you may want to ask yourself.  A paintball field is a business. And like so many others, require attention to the logistics (and a myriad of others) mentioned above.
