How much you got to spend? Also what games do you play? Do you need a monitor? PCI express? AGP?

I was in the same position you are in 6 months ago. Now I have a semi-decent gaming PC. I just bought some older stuff from a friend who constantly upgrades. If you plan on going to lan parties, talk to the people there. See if they have any older but still good hardware available for cheap. Buying second hand older stuff is a good way to get started. |

This is the key. Buy a bare-bones setup, find an upgrade-happy friend, and buy his old video card and processor every six months. I've done this with great luck. |

If you really look around. You can build a computer from Internet Forums and eBay. That also depend on your trust with other people. If you go the route of computer forums make sure it has some sort of "rank" system. |

i think this type of computer in that range should have an AGP video card(not pci express),DDR memory(not DDR2), and an IDE hard drive (not SATA).

Ah, missed that. My apologies.
Go to start > run > type in "DXDIAG" (Caps lock not needed, and don't use quotations). Screenshot or type out the first page, and video or grahpics or whatever page. |
