I'm pretty sure all CO2 tanks use 3k burst disks, as that's the only kind Oshman's sells, and the box they come in says it's for all CO2 tanks. So why does mine have an 1800 psi disk? It's been working alright, blew just recently so I had my mother go get one from Oshman's. I have 4 20 oz tanks, and 3 of them have the 3k kind. Should it be alright if I install the 3k burst disk onto the tank that blew the 1800 one? I bought this one tank new, and it came with the 1.8k disk so idk. |

Get the 1.8k burst disc, it was on there for a reason. Oshman
might only sell co2 tanks rated to 3k psi, but if the burst disc is
rated higher than the tank that means the tank will blow before the
disc, not what you want.
Check your tank to find its rating. |

All of my tanks are pretty much the same though. All are the aluminum kind. I don't see why one would be stronger than the other. Where does the tank show the rating? Hopefully not on the label, hehe, it's gone. |

you can put the 3k one on. 1.8k is just a lower pressure. All your CO2
tanks should have the same working, burst, and rupture ratings.

Cool, just one question. Why would this tank come new with a 1.8k burst disk? |

hmmmm, after further research into an old PB2x, better go with the 1.8k.
Different types of tanks have different burst pressure ratings. Chromo moly's have a 3000 burst disc because they are thicker. Thinner aluminum mostly have 1.8 |

All (EDIT:my) bottles are roughly the same weight. All of them get filled up to 1800 pounds. All bottles are supposed to handle a lot more than that. The package from Oshman's says it's for all CO2 tanks. idk what to do. The bottles all are the same weight and have the same thing engraved into the bottle. They should all have same type of burst disk. 1.8k or 3k Edited by Boydster |

As a point, I have NEVER seen a 3k burst disc go off. CO2 just doesn't
get that high. Have the person that does your fills put it in. Its
their butt.

Most if not all of the Catalina Cyclinder tanks have 1800psi disks on them. The molly or stell ones as well as some aluminum ones have 3K disks on them. It doesnt make much sense, but my advice is to replace the disk of the same pressure as before.

I'd say put on the 1.8k. Better to blow a hundred burst disks than blow a tank and half your face. Safety first. Long time no see boydster. Edited by LordJovian |

Hey, LordJovian. I got a Pro/Carbine so I should be around the Tippmann forums a bit more now. Most of my time lately has been spent on AO. Well, I went to Academy and got a 3k disk. I think I'll be fine, but if you don't hear from me in a long long time, I'm dead. Thanks for the help. |

...your tanks are filled to 1800 pounds. Ummm...no. The pressure in the tank even when full should never be above 900. And I think burst disks are supposed to be around double that pressure, so 1800 would make sense.

Hm, all I know is the box that the disk came in said it was for all constant cylinders. And nobody besides me would look into it this far. The average Joe would say, "I need a replacement burst disk." *Goes to Academy to look for one*. "Oh here's one. Problem solved." Brass Eagle wouldn't want every customer of theres to be in danger would they? |

tnaks arn't filled to a specific pressure. 800-900 is the average
output. However, pressure from heat can creep up to around 1800 pounds.

Brass Eagle doesn't care much about quality control. My buddy had a raptor shoot the bolt out the back. Lucky his face wasn't in the way.

First CO2 tanks I bought used 1800 psi burst disks. The next three all had 3K burst disks. Same brand of cylinder. All the cylinders weigh EXACTLY the same. All five cylinders I have show an 1800 stamp on the shoulder. I am a welder by trade so I called a cylinder manufacturer. He told me that the burst disk is usually twice the tank rating and actually the 3K burst disks could replaced with disks that go as high as 3600 psi. As for blowing a disk, an overly full CO2 cylinder in the sun will blow a disk because there is no expansion room. Not from a safety point of view, but just so you don't loose a full tank of gas, if you fill your cylinders yourself don't put more than 16 oz in your 20 oz cylinder. It makes little difference in the number of shots fired, but may save your back up full cylinder. |

Thanks Bruce.
Then again if your filling your own tanks, then a smaller fill will just give you less shots. Cause you can always go get more later. |

You are right, sixteen ounces rather than 20 ounces will certainly fire fewer shots from that bottle, but that is why I carry spare bottles to the field in the first place. Invariably everyone seems to run out of gas and show up at the refill station at the same time. I have stood in the refill line for as long as 20 minutes when there was only about a half hour of play time left. Out of habit now I switch to a new cylinder about half way through the session (speedball). |
