Ok, ever since I ran out of the oil that came with my A5, I have been looking for a safe oil to use in my gun. On one hand I hear Hoppe's #9 is Tippmann recommended, on the other hand I hear it eats away at your O-Rings. Now, I couldn't find Hoppe's #9, so I found the next best thing (or so I think) Hoppe's Elite - Gun Oil. I am curious if this stuff is even safe to use, I mean I asked some kid (around my age) if the stuff is fine to use, and he said sure. But I got to looking at it after I bought it and it says stuff like: I feel like beating myself over the head with my A5 right now. And yes, I know, this is a really newbie thing to post, but I really have no idea. |

Hoppes #9 is what Tippmann gives you to start with. It can be found in
any Meijer, Walmart, K-mart. In the gun section. Orange plastic bottle.

So how about: Because that's what I have... I figured it might be better than plain old Hoppe's 9, like it's basically the same stuff but better quality or something. |

I'm sure you can find more hoppes #9 if you look around. I have used
gold cup oil on my 98 and A-5 for a while because I had the same
problem and it hasn't eaten away at any o-rings so you can try that if
it's easier to find. The stuff is made for paintball guns so it makes
sense for it to be safe to use on o-rings.

Actually, the silicone oil will worl just fine. Silicon oil is compatible with all "o" rings (except maybe some silicone "o" rings) Elite is fine. Compatible with "o" rings. Buy any pneumatic tool oil, 3 in 1 oil, or just about any gun oil. Now, even if you use an oil that softens your "O" rings, you should be replacing them periotically anyway and even the wrong oil just shortens the life of the rubber. You'll probably replace it before it starts to disintergrate. Heck, I have used WD-40 with no detectable deterioration for 8 months with the same "o" rings. This is not something to get excized about. I actually like a little lithium grease on my rear bolt "o" ring. Only problem I have ever seen with any "O" rings in the marker have been when I failed to lubricate at all.

Hoppes 9 is a great gun oil. I'm not sure about the Elite though. I'd just take it back and look around for 9.

I would still like to some tippmann guy respond to this... how about I soak an extra o-ring in this oil for awhile and see what happens to it or something? |

I would send an e-mail to tippmann directly. I think the tech guy's
e-mail is tech@tippmann.com but you should head to the contact section
of the site to make sure. Just ask them whatever you want to know and
they'll respond within a few days. I have asked them dozens of
questions and they've been very quick to respond. In fact, it's not
uncommon for them to respond the next day. If that doesn't work then
give them a call and they'll have to answer you

you can use any air tool oil. since the marker is an air tool. tools
like nail guns and such are sealed the same way, with orings and
plactic inside. Hoppes #9 is safe to use, also try Marvel Air
Tool oil. but any air tool oil is safe.

I've used many different oils in my 98/A5. They worked fine afterwards.

O-rings are typically made from two different materials, either rubber or neoprene. Petroleum based lubricants will break down rubber, but not harm neoprene. Mineral oil type lubricants, like Hoppes #9 are good for all o-rings. So if you're sure you dont have rubber o-rings, then use any lubricant you want.

That's strange. What kind of questions are you asking? Maybe there are
some things they don't want to tell you for whatever reason and they
don't know how to dodge the question without just ignoring it entirely.

I have been asking if I coud buy just part of the Low Pressure Kit. I have installed on my 98C the E-Bolt so I would like to buy just the verticle adaptor with the expansion chamber and the modified valve (power chamber). As I don't need the new rear bolt (hammer) and spring. No answer. Before that, I asked that with the installation of the E-Bolt and a Palmer Stabilizer what parts were available to me to get my marker into true low pressure operation. No answer. Another question was whether there was a modification to the valve that reduced the rear blowback gas since it was no longer needed for my E-Bolt equiped marker. No answer. I actually haven't been pestering them. These questions were submitted over a period of about to months. (BTW, on reducing that blow back gas, I have come up with an easy modification of the valve that stops virtually all of the blow back loss.) |
