well i got a crap valve so i just got a used one to replace it, and know i have a a fancy paper weight. i wondered if it could ever be fixed so i tried to take it apart, to assess the damage, but could not seem to do so. so my question is does anyone know how to get the blasted thing apart if not to fix it at least to look?

Use a dental pick or something else narrow and sharp to pry out the coiled snap ring type gizmo on the end of the valve. Once you get that out, its all cake.
