I have a two-year old 98 Custom with the low pressure kit and a PMI
Pure Energy
regulator installed. When I plug in my co2, sometimes I can hear
gas leaking out the barrel, but when I cock the gun it's fine.
Now, yesterday when I went to play, I fired 20-30 rounds before we
started, and it worked fine. Then while playing, I went to shoot
someone, and 2 rounds came out fine, then a few more came out real slow
till the gun just died and wouldn't re-cock itself, almost if as my
tank was empty. So I pulled the bolt back and pulled the trigger,
and it acted as if the co2 wasn't even attatched. Anyway, about 5
minutes later I fired it, and again, 2 or 3 shots came out fine, then
the velocity started to drop rapidly till it just stopped firing
alltogether. The thing that pisses me off most about this is that
just last week I went out and fired 1000 rounds, just testing and
tuning everything, and I didn't have a single problem. I figure
it's probably my low pressure system, but I want to get a few more
opinions before I drop another hundred bucks into this piece of junk :(
And yes, my o-rings are fine, my gun is well-oiled and cleaned, and my c02 tank was full. I also use a remote line, but there's no blockage in that. Edited by schnappi |

Sounds like something might be wrong with the valve, maybe.

How would I go about fixing that, or seeing if it needed to be fixed?

Ok, so I took the whole thing apart and thoroughly cleaned it,
and got some gunk out of my expansion chamber, put it back together,
then I remembered the adjustment screw in my regulator. So I
turned it all the way up, put the stock barrel back on it, took it
outside to test it and it worked fine. Only thing is, and I'm not
sure if this is supposed to happen or not, but when I first turned the
gas on, the bolt jumped back maybe a quarter of an inch as all the air
components filled up, but no leakage. Same thing when the air was
off after I fired all the air out, the bolt bumped back forward.
I just recently bought this gun off of a friend for fifty bucks with
the regulator and low pressure system installed, so I really don't know
much about tippmanns... Anyway it appears to be fixed. But
what about that bolt bumping thing, is that normal? It kinda
freaked me out at first, as if the thing was going to blow apart.

If anything is ever wrong with your gun, you can send it to Tippmann and many times they will fix it for free.

I had a problem with my 98 similiar to the first problem you described. I found out that the screw on the reciever half that holdes the valve in place was missing and the other screw next to it was loose. I tightened and replaced the screws and my gun works just fine.

NASA and the Americans spent millions of dollars and hundreds of hours to develop a pen that would write in space.....The Russians used a pencil.

You should always cock your gun before you put on the air. :)
