Topic: BROKEN RATCHET RANT!!! (2 month old A-5)Posted: 13 February 2007 at 11:23am |

Before I buy this marker I did a small research about it and I was alerted about the premature braking of the ratchet on non A revisions. The newer A-5 comes with revision A (like mine) but this thing STILL LET ME DOWN on the field yesterday. I opened the cyclone and I was SHOCKED on how cheap/crappy material the ratchet is made of! It's a joke, it looks like rubber made. At TechT site reading the install instructions I noticed they show the original ratchet as being clear (like polycarbonate) and not a beige colored like the one on my A-5. Is this a newer revision of the ratchet? At the pic below I didn't had to make much pressure to deform the ratchet Before you guys jump out telling me to stop being cheap and buy a Vortex mod, take into consideration that I live in a third world country and even IF we had it here, it would cost like U$90 or even more. If I try to buy it from ANY stores in USA they won't ship it to me because I live in a third world country. Nice Isn't it? but this product is made in the USA and I am doomed to send the whole gun to warranty (paying shipping) and pray to the ratchet not break in two months again P.S I'm not using an E-grip or response trigger, and I'm more a sniper player not shooting much as a front player. This gun shooted 4000-4500 paintballs max.

Ya well I think you should still get the Vortex mod. Paying 90$
might still be cheaper than shipping your Gun (or your broken ratchet)
all the way to the States to have tippmann look at it and give you
another one that could break again. And in the long run if it
were to break again then you'd have to ship it back out and pay for
shipping again = more time and money so imo you should just get the
Vortex now .

It's simple you have two options:
1. Buy a stock ratchet and risk it breaking again. 2. Pay the premium and buy a vortex kit. You decide. Additionally Tech T's website states they ship internationally. Edited by casper8x - 13 February 2007 at 11:28pm |

Or get them for free. When I had my A5 I had like 100 of them. I got them off of a freind who goet them off tippmann.

phil_stl, casper8x, Langside, Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate. The dealer I sent my A-5 is located in another state here in Brazil, I paid like 60BRZ (30bucks) to get them in there. The lesser of two evils Even when the store ships international, they donīt take paypal or CC, Itīs all the same story: problems with chargeback, etc.. Wire transfers cost me alone 60 bucks on taxes at the Bank, So Iīm stuck here. I would love to have the Vortex mod, but nobody can sell it to me for a Worthwhile price. I contacted at least 5 Stores in the US, all with the same payment problem. Best Regards. |

Chances are you didn't get the A revision, the marker you bought was more than likely sitting around on a shelf or something like that before you bought it, and therefore no revision...
Your best bet is to either vortex it, (which you say you cant) or to search Ebay or another parts site and ship it to wherever you are Other than than you have to bite a bullet to fix it |

Mine started skipping as well. When I took it apart I had the same issues you did and mine was also tan. I called (you may want to try email) the service department and they sent me 2 replacements, the clear ones, free of charge.

BUT HE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS! 6...... count 'em 6 new A5's my team has bought and every god damn one of them had the ratchet strip or break within 2 games.
This should be a freaking recall by Tippmann. X7? Yeah, ratchet broke 2nd game. Name one other marker out there that you have this kind of problem with. |

First off, The "A" on the bottom of the Cyclone has nothing to do with what ratchet is inside. It only means that the Cyclone's bottom plate itself is updated. Next, the first ratchets were black, then clear, then beige in color. The latest versions shipping are white in color. Tippmann is also working on a even newer version as I post this. last, my advice to anyone who has a Cyclone on their marker is to upgrade to the Vortex as soon as possible. You will be much better off with metal parts in there than the stock plastic ones.

Whats with the pink ratchet???
By the way, the original ratchet was black, it was the same material as the rest of the cyclone. The clear hard rubber ones work the best out of everything. |

They just completely break instead of strip. Why doesn't Tippmann test their **edited** before they sell it? It is so stupid of them. |
