    Posted: 18 March 2007 at 9:51pm
I will be attending the University of Missouri - Rolla in August. I just got off the phone with the president of the paintball club. Apparently he has worked his tail off to make this club operational, but lacks support from fellow students. Hopefully I can turn this around.

I have been brainstorming ideas to make money and get equipment. Right now we have 25 m98s, chrono, ref gear, and a broken fill station. I know we need more equipment, but I don't know where to start. My main concern is cost. I can get funding from the school, but not enough for some of the big stuff (bulk HPA tank, compressor, co2 stuff...)

Sponsorships are also another concern. The team has had sponsors before but I'm not sure how to go about getting them to responsor or to get new sponors.

I don't know where I am really going with this thread. Just kind of looking for input and ideas. Does anyone go to a college with an NCPA team? Does anyone play on a team?

If you offer free food, people will come...

Hold a day for people just to try shooting the guns.  Maybe even shoot someone to show it doesnt hurt.

don't bother buying your own compressor, it will be more hassle than its worth lugging it to and from the fields. Also to be university sanctioned it will have to be done on zoned land, which means you can't take the club out back of Walmart to try it out.

If you go to an actual field, you will have to use their fill-station facilities.

Supposedly we have a field. However, it seems to be over grown and dilapated. A couple years back they had several airball fields but they ended up getting sold.

I have to wait till I get down there in August to do anything major. I was just trying to think of ways to help it out in the time being.

for sponsors, basicly just send them a cover letter, tell them you will advertise for them for a little bit of support finacely

and ADVERTISE (for the club), Theres an amazing field by my college, but its sad i have yet to see a single poster or add for it.

also keep it clean, and proffesional.

thats my advice

We have one field about 5 minutes away. However, it is not the best field to play on. Most people are just for fun players, who maybe get by there once a month or so.

They nearest "good" fields are an hour and a half away in STL, Columbia, and Springfield. If we get a good enough field I am hoping to run it for the public. Apparently that is the way most college teams support themselves, or so says the president of ours.

How much would I be looking at for a good size airball field?

There is a speedball field out towards Westphalia. Slaughter House is the name.

There should be an airball field out towards rolla, but I cant remember where. Maybe Im thinking of Springfield.

You could try calling up the UMC paintball club. They have their stuff together fairly well. They might be willing to help you guys out. Seeings as Rolla is a sister college.

Ill be going to University Missouri Columbia sometime next year maybe. If transfer goes through.

Good place to get things going in the right direction. They helped in trying to get a highschool club set up for me.

Good luck. I know some people down there. Its a really good college. Not much for chicks, but still nice. AH HA!

Yea. Guy to girl ratio is killer. I was enrolled in UMC but switched to UMR because it is more oriented towards engineering and they gave me more money. The nearest "good" airball fields are Springfield, Columbia, and STL all of which are an hour+ away. Where are you in school right now Monk?

Im currently attending ATC in mexico. But Ill be going to Columbia College next year. Cause I dont have enough credits to transfer as a transfer student. And I dont meet freshmen requirements for UMC. Ugh.

But when I get there and hopefully join the team. It would be really cool to play against you.

You live in Columbia? I'm around KC which is about 2 hours away. Rolla is about 1 and a half from Columbia. I play on coming up there on the weekends while at college to play. I will definitely be in touch.

I can only hope we get enough people to play. I was told we need at least 5 people to make a team and get sponsored. I know we have four right now counting me. PRAY for one more person to express enough interest to play tournament level ball.

Flyers. Seriously, put them up everywhere. You'll get more than enough interest.

Flyers are in order. I just hope we get some dedicated players. Managing the upkeep on a field/club and taking 15 credit hours looks slightly daunting.

Do you think an airball field would be a good investment. We have a field that we can play on, but it is in the woods and made of plywood and the like. I found out we had 3 airball fields back in the day. However, they belonged to students and said students ended up selling them for beer money or god knows what.

getting a ncpa team together takes some work, but not too much

I know two people that did it at their schools..

first, I suggest just getting a tournament team together and hit up some local tournies.  get better as a team, then, as you build a portfolio for your team, approach your school's athletic department and discuss the idea of playing NCPA.  check out the NCPA events and teams around the area, and get in contact with some of the people involved in it... look on pbnation for this, they have a college/high school forum dominated by ncpa representatives and teams.

it takes work and money, and having an airball field wouldn't be a bad idea for some practice.  i know x-ball and nppl fields fetch around 4-5 grand.

Whats up with all that? because the only field we have is 30min away and is only enough room for 3man because its indoors....any suggestions?

Play with what you've got. I the nearest field to me is about 25 - 30 away. The nearest "good" field is about 45 min away. If it's really that big of a problem, play renegade games. That's what I did before I could drive. Luckily, I have a proshop about 10 minutes away.

Chris Raehl is really good about helping clubs get established and stay active, he's the founder and president of the NCPA. I'd suggest getting in touch with the NCPA guys from Drexel and Purdue to see what they do to keep clubs active and fund-raise. You can probably get some money out of the sports fund or from the Student Activities fund to help offset costs. Also, see if you can't get some help from the big boys like Draxxus, Pro-Caps, etc. Chris works for them and usually has some good connections.
