I think this would be a good idea for Tippmann because it would attract alot of players from the speedball side.it could be like the stealth but oppostie so they could buy a stealth if they liked woodsball or a speedball A-5 if they liked speedball.

the problem is that the A5 is still a blow back, which most Speedballers hate, as it is really loud & has a lot of "kick". even if you put a Ebolt in the A5 (which has been done) its still quite long & heavy compared to a Spyder. Spyders are made to be more as a speedball based gun. the 98/A5 has a straight line bolt system, which is naturally longer than the Spyder's setup. Tippmann has to make a shorter valve/bolt design before they can open themselves up in the Speedball area of the sport.

No. Get an Ion, Wrath, AR1, or a Cocker for less than how much a stock A-5 costs.

The Vortex idea is fine. I think an A5 makes a decent speedball gun with enough modification, but it does not appeal to many due to the weight, size, modification needed, and price compared to a speedballgun. Plus many speedballers hate side feeds and cyclones. I think an older 98 (Not Model 98, the raised lettering 98 w/o ACT) makes a better speedball gun than an A5 or Spyder anyway. (I dont think you can Electro-Pneu a Spyder but im not sure). |

That's a bit of an overstatement. I play speedball with my A-5 quite frequently. It works quite well. |

Everyone talks about Tippmanns being soo... heavy but just go and lift some weights and make it feel like your firing a spyder. I personally think that having a lighter gun means that its made out of less durable metals, thats just my take.

You really do not need to do that. The A5 makes a wonderful speedball gun, however, when you get into high tourneys you either want to e-bolt it or buy a new gun. And whoever said Tippmanns are not heavy, they really are not. But when you're used to an invert Mini or Ion or something it feels heavy. (Personally, I like the weight of an A5) |

I thought the Triumph eXT was their "speedball" marker.

My Angel LCD is significantly heavier than my 98 custom. The lighter metals being less durable comment is just stupid. |

Actually, I kinda like using my A-5 for speedball. I got assigned to keep a guy in the snake pinned. So, I twisted my Apex upside down, adjusted it for that range, and started raining paint DOWN over the edge of the snake. The poor guy was so pinned down, I think I saw him peek out twice in 10 minutes.
And yes, it's unfortunate that when it comes down to "tourney play" you will eventually have to "upgrade" to a speedier gun, to spray paint, to make up for the inherent inaccuracy of shooting a musket ball made of gelatin and spit at low velocity... I have an Angel and a Shocker too, and they have their uses, when they're not down, but no one is paying me to win, so I just play to have fun. Edited by zensins - 21 April 2007 at 12:53am |
