I quit. Please only give valid responses.

I've been thinking about my choice of major (pharmacy) a lot lately, and the more I do, the more I realize I don't think this is what I want to be doing for the rest of my life. I have come to the realization that I don't care about any of the classes I'm taking. If this was really something I wanted to do, wouldn't I at least care about going to class and studying? It's just that I feel so jaded about everything right now. I hate this town, most of the people here, and my courses. I'm doing pretty crappy gradewise right now in a few classes (BioChem, Physio, Stats) and it's finals week, and I feel like I barely care enough to study. I'm basically forcing myself to right now.

I'm seriously considering going into something else.  I don't think the healthcare profession is for me. I think I'd enjoy biology, computer science, or design more. Hell, even culinary arts. There are some problems associated with this though. If I change my major, I'm going to have to end up changing schools. My girlfriend is here, and I'm really concerned about how she is going to deal with me not being here. Also, I feel like I've wasted nearly 3 years pursuing this and a ton of money as well. I'm worried about what my parents would say. Obviously this shouldn't be an issue, but pharmacy is good money, and I'm worried about being able to make enough in something else.

If I can make it through this year, I'd probably be set, but I don't know if I want to. This has been bothering me a lot lately, and I just don't know what to do. A good part of me wants to throw in the towel and start over. I just don't feel like I'm cut out for this.

I'm really sorry for the livejournal post. I wouldn't have posted this, except it's killing me, and I really would like to hear some advice before bringing this up to my family/friends/girlfriend.

Do what interests you the most. I left the University of Memphis mid semster because I discovered computer engineering did not cover the networking field I wanted to get into.

Just make sure you have a good idea of what you want to do before you leave that school.

Pharmacy kinda seems like a major that can't really lead into much else if you get that degree. If you aren't enjoying it now, do you think you are going to enjoy it for the rest of your life? I know sometimes you have to do JOBS that you don't like, but if this is going to be your CAREER you better be pretty sure you are going to like it for the rest of your working life.

Just my 2 cents.

I go to Ohio Northern U. It's too expensive for me to be there for any other reason than pharmacy. I really don't think very many of my courses would transfer besides a General Educations courses. Basically everything else I've taken so far is for Health Sciences.

I'm just not sure if I really want to be counting pills for the rest of my life. Obviously I know there's more to being a pharmacist than just that.

What do you do for fun? What do you enjoy in your free time?

Can you make a living through a variant of any of those things? It might not just give you an answer straight up, but its a good place to start.

How did your parents react, PCF? I've already been hinting at mine that I wasn't doing all that well and I was just trying to get through the material. If I screw this quarter up, they might pull the plug on all this anyway. I guess I'll just have to see how I do, and I'll have "spring" break to figure things out before the next quarter starts.

I've thought about this not very seriously in the past when "things" have hit the fan in the past on and off. Been thinking about this a lot for the last week or so.

they were obviously upset, obviously because they paid for over a year of private engineering school, but they weren't that upset about me knowing that i didn't like what i was into.

I think all of that has a lot to do with it. It'd give it some time before making any decisions or ever seriously considering anything.
