I've had a R/T for years. Recently, it first started slowing down, then it stopped working. I have taken it apart and have cleaned & oil the best I could. I think I have some gunk built up inside the piston. Everything else appears clean, but the piston seems to have more resistance than it used to.
I took it out of the gun, but I can't seem to figure out how to get inside of it. I just want to clean it out, and lube it up really good. When I fire, the piston rod jumps, but not hard enough to actually re-set the trigger. If all else fails, I plan to call Tippmann Tomorrow. Edited by motopsycho650 - 06 April 2008 at 7:48am |

Is it the RT model with the completely sealed-up piston? Some of them dont have a front plug.
If its sealed up, good luck. I tried to take one apart once, and I couldnt find a single non-destructive way to do it. |

It's an R/T kit for a 98C. It's old enough that I'm sure it's the original design, (I didn't know they ever re-designed it). I'm thinking that yes, it's a sealed piston. The more I look at it, the more I'm thinking the end caps are press-fitted.
Did Tippmann redesign the piston so it can be disassembled? Everytime I've played, I put 2 drops of oil in the ASA to lube my PPS Stabilizer, and the valve internals. I'm thinking time, use, and old oil build-up has gunked-up the piston and/or the o-ring has swelled. I wrote Tippmann a detailed email, I'm hoping they may help me out. I don't want to buy another R/T kit, but I guess if I have to... Edited by motopsycho650 - 06 April 2008 at 8:49am |

I believe the old 98c r/t's were press fit together.
If you're worried about it, put a couple drops directly into the piston. |
