My Snake Finally Bit Me **PIC OF SNAKE!**

So, it's Boa Feeding Day, and my snake knew it, but I didn't have any mouse. I noticed she was low on water, and I figured I'd handle her a bit before I refilled it. So, like a silly person, I reached in to hold her. Thing was, she was expecting food, and her head was already poking out of her hide log, seeing what was going on. So she lunged, and grabbed my thumb. Good news is, she knew it was me really quick and let go. I know she recognized my "flavor" simply because I've seen her in action, and when she bites something, she normally WON'T let go. She grabbed a sock once, and it took me about 15 minutes to get it from her...

Thing was, her teeth are so sharp, and she's was so quick, it didn't really hurt. Don't worry, I disinfected it with alcohol.

TL;DR: Feed snakes when they are hungry. Don't try to play with them.

So I learned a bit of boa constrictor anatomy. They have multiple rows of very sharp teeth that apparently hook backwards. Sucks to be a mouse...

BTW: She's a 3-4' boa. Rather hard to measure a snake. Anyway, she was hatched last may, so she's about a year old. She'll get around 6' and about as wide as my arm. I guess I should be glad she's still on the small side. At least she knows me.

Merc: I do the same thing, but she's young, so she may not be quite used to it yet. Also, she may have just been defending her territory, as I didn't really make my presence known. I just reached in. Either way, it's the first time that's happened, and since she let go rather quick, I'll assume she's not just mean spirited.
