Hi, I bought a Smart Parts SP-8 as my first gun and have regretted it ever sense. I'm going to be selling it but my question is which gun should I buy next? I'm a woodsball player so I want it to be a Tippmann because of their ease of use and cleaning. But should I get the A-5 or X-7 model? In you guy's opinion which gun is the better buy?

Well, why do you regret buying the SP-8?  What don't you like about it?

After using my friends tippmann ( a Alpha Black and 98c - basicly the same gun, I know) the electro doesn't seem to have as much power as the tiippmanns I've use. If I turn the velocity up to where it has about the same shot, my air efficiency goes down the drain. I've also had problems with the ball feed. I've had time where while I'm playing I can't get a ball to feed into the gun, and I'll just dry shoot. I've resolved this by rapping on the side of the gun close to where the bolt is and that fixes it, but by then I've lost any shot I had on the other players. I was thinking that I might be able to fix this by useing an electric hopper, but the lack of power is really what made me regret buying an SP-8

Lack of power?  You mean low velocity?  What velocity are you shooting?

And you absolutely need at least an agitating hopper with any electro, including the SP-8.  Gravity hoppers won't keep up.

yeah i realise that about the hopper. But thats not really the problem. I have balls going into the gun but nothing shoots out. Almost like the bolt doesn't cock all of the way. But like I said, I'm newer to the game and not an expert about this stuff. As for my velocity, I'm not sure about exactly where I've got it set at. I guess about 25-27 clicks from 0. It's where the balls get fair distence on them and I'm not useing a TON of air.

Your gun isn't shooting because it has eyes that won't let the gun shoot without a ball properly fed.  The balls aren't properly fed because the hopper is too slow.  It is a hopper problem - your gun is just protecting you from creating a mess.  This is not as much of a problem for the 98's just because they can't shoot as rapidly as your electro.

As for velocity - the only way to know how fast you are shooting is with a chronograph.  Judging by eye/gut is never reliable.

My suspicion is that you are shooting just fine, but you FEEL like you aren't shooting as "hard" because your gun doesn't make a big noise and shake when you shoot, like the 98's do.  This is not an indication that your shot is less "powerful" - it is just an indication that you have an electro and they have mechanical blowback markers.

hmm, I guess you could be right about that. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do, but thanks for taking the time to talk to a noob.

On that note, if you and your friends aren't playing at a sanctioned field, BUY A CHRONOGRAPH. Shooting at excessive velocities (and not realizing it) is a very dangerous thing. Powerful shots can break mask's lens, and that would be bad.

You guys ARE playing with proper eye gear, right?

I can't agree with this more.  Hand chronos go for about $80 and are worth every cent if you are not playing on a proper paintball field.  Get a chrono and make sure you guys are shooting under 300fps.

As has been mentioned your SP8 won't shoot as "violently" as the Tippmanns because of it's design.  You also need an electric hopper on that marker.  I'd try those things first and see where that gets you.

Yeah, chrono it and get an electric hopper. It'll do wonders.

I wouldn't be surprised about how you think your friend's Tippmanns are shooting faster. The last game I was at I played with a guy using an SP-8, it was super super quiet. I was amazed.

Duh!! what do you think we are, idiots? Were not stupid. I wouldn't want to get hit in the face without a mask. As for the speed we're shooting at, we checked our guns at a field, so we're within reasonable limits

It isn't as quiet as you think.. when your shooting it atleast. I've never played against it before so I guess I'm not sure how quiet it is to other people.
