ive been away from Paintball for a bit due to lack of time and money. my old marker was a 98 Custom with the electronic trigger. The battery was outside on the upper right side of the receiver under a plastic cover. That gun was destroyed in hurricane Katrina, I ordered a new 98 custom platinum with the E-grip already installed. From all the pictures ive seen of them the new E-grip seems to be completely self contained. Is the battery now in the handle, and do you still have to open the grip to select fire control with a dip switch?

Your old marker had an E-bolt. They have been replaced by the E-grip/trigger. Yes the battery is now in the handle.

Thats awesome. Is the cyclone feeder worth putting on a 98? and how difficult is it to install?

To do, or not to do: it's a matter of taste in my opinion. If you get a Cyclone Feeder for your 98c, you'll have to drill a hole in the side of your marker for the powertube cyclone/RT adapter to go through. I saw a HowTo somewhere on the internet, but I can't find it atm. My recommendation is take the money that you would spend on the Cyclone Feeder (and the parts to upgrade the feeder) and buy an electronic hopper. They're easier to use, you can use them on just about any marker if you decide to upgrade from your 98c in the future, and (this is what made me decide not to get a Cyclone feeder) if it malfunctions on you during a game you can swap out for another hopper.

That's just my .02s

Unfortunately, your .02 is worthless as you have no idea what you are talkiing about. Both the 98Custom and 98 Platinum are Cyclone ready and no holes have to be drilled. You simply unscrew the plug on the hole in the powertube, screw in the fitting, remove the stock feedneck, put the cyclone on, and attach the airline. I think your average 5 year old could actually do it in under 5 minutes.

As for the Cylcone malfunctioning, you could take the Cyclone off it about 10 seconds, screw the powertube plug back in, and put the stock feedneck and hopper back on. Done.

lol.

The Cyclone is a nice hopper IMO. I've had mine for about two years and it's never had a problem. There are upgrades to the speed/durability avaiable from T-Tech and a few other places. All a matter of preference really. I do believe that the Cyclone is hands down better then other loaders, but again, that is only my opinion....don't yell at me too PB....Wink

So there is. I never noticed that plug before, and I didn't see it mentioned on model98.org.

Thanks for the correction LOL

You may have been thinking of the M98's or very early 98C's that did not have the port for the RT or Cyclone. But those are quite old now. Mistakes happen, just try to make sure your info is accurate.

thank you for the info. When i played before I bought that gun with the e-bolt and never really had any desire to mess with the gun (or the money). I decided on this one i would drop some extra money into the marker, nothing quite as costly as some of the mods i've seen but a few performance mods wouldn't hurt. Any reccomendations are welcome. I really dont know as much as id like to about the inner workings of the markers and am attempting to learn as much as possible before i dump money on useless upgrades or mods that cancel each other out.

Well the package that was suppose to contain my new marker arrived today, instead of the 98 platinum they sent an X7. any opinions  on whether i should keep the x7 or raise a fuss and get the right marker sent next day. I have no experience with the X7, I owned an older 98 and i liked it.

^^^^^ What did they charge you for? Because the X7 is considerably more money.

i ordered a package with a mask and all the other nonsense they also left parts of the package that was supposed to be included out of the box. I payed for the 98 package  and looked on their website and saw a considerable price difference in a comparable package. I'm just not sure if ill like the X7 it seems a bit on the bulky side.

This is hilarious. It is a matter of morale. You could keep the X7 which seems like a decent gun from what I have read, never used one. You could send it back for what you ordered. I would personally keep the gun if you payed for the 98 package as the mask isn't worth a crap and the 9 oz Co2 tank doesnt last very long anyway. Just the fact of how you would feel about getting a $300 gun for the $169 price.
