Okay. My friend let me borrow his 98 and i played with it this past weekend. It was really cold and i was having paint issues. Half way through the day the gun stopped working. i assumed it was too much paint breakage in the chamber and the cold. when i took it out today to clean it. before i disassembled it, it was working just fine. so i took it apart to clean it. i cleaned out the chamber and everything. When i reassembled it, it bolt would go back, but wouldn't stay, it'd go back forward. i looked at the schematics online and none of them looked like the interior of this marker. i need some help because he will kill me if his gun is broken when i give it back. i also found this inside(picture below) and i have no idea what it is or even if it had to do with anything but i didn't know what it is and was wondering if someone did. any help would be greatly appreciated so thank you in advance whoever helps me.

it sounds like ur sear isn't catching the bottom of the rear bolt, which makes sense as i beleive that's the sear spring.
now its been awhile, but one of those loops on the sping connects to the little hook on the bottom of the sear. the other loop connects to the empty pin behind the trigger. The trigger should be held in place by , i beleive, two of these pins. there shoudl be a vacant one, as i said, to the right. if the spring is connected right it should force the back end of the sear up to the rear bolt. pulling the bolt back should make it catch. hope this helped some. the schematic really should be more help than that half coherand explanation. |

That sear is in backwards. The hook for the spring goes to the rear. The spring hooks on the pin to the left of the nut hole just below it.

ok, not to go against tinman, but as far as i can see in that pic, the sear is in fine.
one of the loops of the spring goes on the little hook at the bottom of the spring. streth the spring out and hook it on the pin above your RT chamber. its the pin down and to the righ of the sear, just to the left of the nut in the receiver, and above the RT (that cylinder with the pin that comes out at the back of the trigger). edit: the sear is correct in the first picture. when connected correctly, the butt of the sear (the right end) should be pushing against he bottom of the rear bolt. when the bolt is pulled back, the butt of the sear catches on that milled groove in the bottom of the rear bolt. What's odd is the trigger looks like a newer model, but the sear looks like an older one. I though the 98's with the sear spring that pulled down on the sear also had the triggers with the lip on the back that you had a spring attached to it..? |

Well on my new Tippmann 98, and this may be because it's ACT, but i am not sure, but it doesn't have any springs physically attached to the sear. Just springs that like sit on or below on it that maneuver it around. But i haven't looked in it in a while and my friend has it right now so i am not sure.

Right, that is the way they are currently done. On the M98 (non-custom) models, they had springs that attached to the sear, and another to the back of the trigger that attached to the pin next to the one the sear attached to. It looks like someone put a new trigger assembly in from a 98C into the M98 and that's why you had problems finding a diagram that matched it. Edited by oldpbnoob - 05 January 2010 at 2:23pm |

The first generation 98 customs had the same sear system as the m98. The second generation 98 customs have a system that has a regular spring, similar to the trigger spring.
