I have been out of paintball for the last two and half years. I recently went for a casual game with some mates of mine. To my surprise, two of them had these new HHead straightline barrels from tippmann.

Two years ago, no-one was running rifled barrels. The whole idea was disproved time and time again. I was even one of those people that advocated against rifled barrels. As far as I can remember, tippmann had no rifled barrels attached to their name.

What changed in the last two years? Are rifled barrels now the new thing? Have they been proven to work or actually add anything to the markers potential? Are they a step-up to the old flatline or apex bareels? Or are they merely a gimmick realeased by tippmann?

Compared to the Flatline and Apex barrels the straightline is more accurate but as for the rifled barrels being proven, i wouldnt say so. The best part of the straightline barrel system just as any barrel system is the interchangable bore sizers which allow all the air of the marker to push behind the ball and not out around it giving it better chance for a flat trajectory. in my experince the rifling just acts like porting on other barrels and dampens the sound signature (a little) and releases excess air out of the barrel without causing unecessary spin to the ball. if you have shot a hammerhead barrel before its going to seem very familiar.
