Evening. I am looking at purchasing a 98c after using many different variations from friends. I primarily play woodsball but play some speed. I am looking at purchasing this one: http://www.actionvillage.com/store/Tippmann-Paintball-Gun-98-Custom-ACT-E-Trigger-Platinum-Series-Black_P9258C1369.cfm any thoughts? I also would like to upgrade the barrel. I am having a hard time between 14 and 16inch. I guess I could save up get a 16 for woods and 14 for speed? or save even more for a barrel kit? How is the electronic trigger and ACT technology? I have never used one before. I would like to run air and not C02, any recommendations? and other upgrades? Trying to keep it as light as possible. I appreciate any insight.

There is really no difference between a 14 and 16in barrel other than cosmetic.

In the broad spectrum of bad ideas I think this would have to rate somewhere between running with scissors and sticking your pecker in the toaster.

Go with a 12'' or 14'' barrel. A 16'' offers no added benefit over a 14''.
E-Triggers are more fun, but I like the simplicity of semi-auto. I have an RT on my 98, but dont use it much unless SHTF.
You do not need upgrades to run HPA.

Don't go over 12", especially for speedball.
As for which barrel, if you want to spend the money, barrel kits are nice, but make sure its worth the investment. Otherwise I say get a JJ ceramic, since its light and will shoot well with most bore sizes. Also, don't waste money on a drop. It just makes the marker more awkward to handle and does nothing to lower profile. Everything else seems fine except I'd do more research on hoppers since Halos might be out of date by now. |

E-grip isn't tourney legal; get a basic platinum and get a rampage board. As far as barrels go get a JJ ceramic 12-16 in. Work well with chops or get a flatline.

I personally like the drop forward, it makes the overall length of your setup about an inch shorter and drops your tank down an inch. also it makes your gun not so back heavy. i also noticed when i tuck my tank under my arm it gives me a clear view right down the sights of my gun without having my mask get in the way. I guess its personal preference, and it also depends if your playing speed ball or woods ball. i know in the woods id rather have the shortest setup possible, less for your gun to get caught on if you find yourself in thicker brush.
As for the barrel, i would buy just one good overall barrel. something you can use for speed and wood, then invest in a barrel kit. 12 -14 inch will work just fine, don't forget your barrel kit will add an inch or more to your length. |
