    Posted: 16 May 2011 at 11:01am
Hey guys ! Okay so I've been playing Paintball as a rental for four years and decided to finally make the step-up and buy my own gear.

I have:
Tippmann 98c
14” BT Apex 2
Halo B Hopper
JT Spectra 8 Mask.

I have read the stickies but am not sure on a couple of things and was hoping you guys would be able to help:

1) Response Trigger v E-Grip. Is it a case of one or the other? If so what are the pro's and cons. And does the E-Grip work on a 98 or do I need the E-Trigger (I thought they were same thing)?

2) O-Rings. Is it worth purchasing new ones straight away or are there purchased once current ones are worn down? If so, how do you tell?

3) Sights. Can I attach a Red Dot sight without needing an Extended Rail Sight?

4) Hopper. What would a Rip Drive and V35 do to my Halo Hopper ? (I've been offered some on a cheap.) And how much do you recommend purchasing a Speed Feed?

5) Graphics Kit. Where can I buy one? Justpaintball has one but they're sold out atm.

Many thanks guys and apologies for my ignorance. I just can't wait to get out there and play a few times with my new gear.

Kind regards,

/JayDee

1) Response Trigger v E-Grip. Is it a case of one or the other? Yes. If so what are the pro's and cons. Check the Upgrades and Customizing forum. There is a thread that describes both. Essentially an E-grip/trigger is electronic, the RT is powered by excess gas.  And does the E-Grip work on a 98 Yes.or do I need the E-Trigger Same thing (I thought they were same thing)?

2) O-Rings. Is it worth purchasing new ones straight away or are there purchased once current ones are worn down? As a precaution, I would buy a spare set of O-rings (usually sold as a set) and a pack of spare tank O-rings.If so, how do you tell? When it starts leaking.

3) Sights. Can I attach a Red Dot sight without needing an Extended Rail Sight? Depends on if you get one that is compatible with the 98's rail or not. I always forget excactly what type of rail it is, but honestly one of the site risers will help bring the RD up to your eye level.

4) Hopper. What would a Rip Drive and V35 do to my Halo Hopper ?Rip drive is in case your battery dies, you can spin the drive and feed balls to your marker. V35 makes it feed at a faster rate, up to 35bps whic is nearly impossible to reach with a Tippmann.  (I've been offered some on a cheap.) And how much do you recommend purchasing a Speed Feed? I personally don't care for them, but they are usually cheap, so try it and see.

5) Graphics Kit. Where can I buy one? Justpaintball has one but they're sold out atm. No idea. I know some people can do hydrographics which are pretty sweet. Might try googling "paintball hydrographics".

Many thanks guys and apologies for my ignorance. I just can't wait to get out there and play a few times with my new gearRead this highlighted part over and over again before you start going Apes..t with upgrades. It will save you tons of money and aggravation.

Kind regards,

/JayDee

I just want to say in regard to your first question (I'm assuming you've read the stickies by now and know what an RT actually is) that I have had an RT on my 98custom for about 5 years now and I absolutely love it! If your thinking of getting one i would recommend it. No one can tell that you're gun isn't just fully automatic (when you want it to be), you don't have to worry about batteries dying, in my experience, its more reliable than any e-grip, and its totally customizable, however fast or slow you want it to shoot is totally up to you, and at most fields that I've been at its pretty unique.

The only downside to the RT is they may not be allowed on certain fields.  I have an egrip on my A-5 and have never had the battery die on me mid-game.  I still have the same battery in mine from two years ago and it still works great.  It is all personal preference.

Thank you for all the responses so far ! Been incredibly helpful.

I've been sent my gun and whilst I ordered a Tippmann 98c, instead I was sent a Valken SW-1. I've done some reading and it's made by the guys that used to work for BT, it's a newer 98c model that has A5 threads, foregrip, an MP5-esque sight rail and more polished internals for cleaner functionality.

I'm doing more reading on the Response Trigger and the E-Grip now, I'm edging towards the E-Grip purely because if the battery lasts as long as you said Stormyknight I'd prefer it than excess air usage.

Anyway, thanks again guys ! Appreciate the help.

That isn't a Tippmann marker.

I know dude, I was sent it instead but I think a lot of Tippmann customisations fit it. I thought I was getting a 98 when I made the thread, hence why I'm on a Tippmann forum. I'm going to call the company about the mess-up but through my research it's actually looking better than the 98 - wondered if anyone here has an opinion ?

Cheers again mate ! :)

I am not sure that Tippmann upgrades will necessarily fit that marker. Personally, I would ask them to provide what I ordered.

You said in your previous post that it was a newer 98c model.
