Ok, it's been a couple of years since I last did this. It seems like it has totally taken off now though.

My daughter is now old enough to start doing it as well.

Anyone know of a good Android app that does this well?

OR a good place to pick up GPX files?

The official Android app, I think it's $10, is the best. It works the best with the internal GPS, it links with the official Geocaching map so you can actually see more caches in the area without having to search for them by direction, it pulls up the page for each cache so you can read the hints if you need them, and allows you to log them from the app itself.

There is a free version called c:geo open-source. It's not nearly as good as the official app, but it's free. It has the Geocaching database and can work with the GPS to find one cache at a time, which is all a lot of people really need anyway.

Thanks. cgeo had the live map disabled. I looked at the official app but many of the reviews said it isn't as good as the Iphone one and was laggy . I give it a try though.

Something I need to try. There are a bunch of Geocaches in places where I frequent, which is cool

Just did a quick search and there's 20 or so within a mile of my house. Even a bunch in the park across the street. I'll need to have a look at some point.

I won't look in the woods behind the swings, I'd know if there was one there.

Originally it was a gps based game to go to funky places. there used to be just a log and a pen to leave your details. that was back when i did it. now there is a better record of things, you can log your finds online, there are different things to either do or take. some are keep sakes which you must replace with something of similar value, or a token which has a mission - to move to other caches in a specific manner. only move east, only be placed in caches up a mountain, to move to a specific country.....

It's all just fun. it is still gps based but apps and smart phones makes it more user friendly and accessible. it is a good excuse for getting out the house. gives you a goal besides just being out.

That's awesome, I love seeing technology used to its full potential, and I think that's one of them.

Wierd. I downloaded it and the live map said it was not current and could only show caches that were previously saved. It wouldn't be adding new ones, nor updating them.

I dropped the coin on the official app and it is no where as good as the Iphone version, but I think it'll suit my needs.
