Of course, they didn't bum rush anti-2A legislation through like NY did. So instead of a self-gratifying pat on the back by the governor and president Obama, they got 4,000+ angry gun-owners surrounding the state house.
It's an open session of the judicial committee where the fate of the proposed bill banning "assault weapons" creating a mandatory registry, imposing burdensome fees on gun ownership of ANY type and making it a crime to even own ammo for a firearm you don't personally own is being decided. They started registration for the public to speak at the session at 8AM, the session was supposed to start at 11:30AM. The lines are still out the door as of 3:30 pm for people sign up to talk. What's more, MD law states that no vote can be taken and no session can be ended until everyone who has signed up to speak has spoken their piece. There were 3 signed up to speak in favor of the bill and over 1500 names as of this writing signed up to speak against. Obama was in Annapolis as well today, he was supposed to be meeting with MD lawmakers at the state house. They had to move the meeting off site because they couldn't get him in or out. Even then, their meeting was delayed by hours because it was virtually impossible to get into the city with a 2-mile back-up on US 50 created by gun owners showing up to show their disapproval of the bill. So many people turned up that the Naval Academy parking lot is filled to capacity. And yet. I doubt it'll even be a blurb on the news tonight. |

Quietly?? Tallen the legislators and senators whom we voted in to office ignored and lied to us. Chairman Cuomo of the Glorious People's Democratic Republic of New York rushed the bill in the night, dangled a carrot in front of the Republicans to vote for a flawed law they did not bother to read. Senator Diaz admitted the law won't work on camera. He wrote the damn thing. The Long Island firearms owners called and emailed all of our legislators telling them not to vote for the bill. I was told by Ken Lavalle's people and Don Losqardo's that they would not be voting for the SAFE act. We were lied to. LEO's in my area said they would not enforce the law and I doubt there will be anyone registering their rifles.

I would reccomend registering your rifles. NJ had an AWB in 1992 and there are a lot of rifles that had to be dumped in PA over it.
There is a big 2A rally in Trenton this Friday, I really want to go but I have a calc class.

Over 3,000 people signed their opposition to the bill yesterday IN PERSON. Meanwhile all of the news agencies are saying "hundreds" showed up rather than the thousands it actually was. And the state senate has the evidence to back it up with the signatures. No agenda in the media at all. Nope, none, nada.....

I'm surprised MD didn't already have the AWB.

There's a pseudo-ban in place already impulse. No mags over 20 rounds can be purchased in state or shipped to the state, but you can buy them in VA/WV/PA and bring them in yourself. There are some banned firearms which they call "assault pistols" like the VZ Skorpion and Tech-9, but it's a short list. A few "street sweeper" style shotties are also on the list. The reality is that there's a short course you have to watch online (30 minutes) that lets you then print out a card that gives you the ability to buy a "restricted" firearm. Once you have the card, you're good to go for 1 "restricted" firearm per 30 days. That means pistols, "assault weapons" etc. You can become a designated collector which lifts the 1-per-30 restriction. OR, you can have a FFL which circumvents all of it and buy anything you want and have it shipped to you. There's a defacto registration right now for "restricted" arms since the MDSP run a background check on you and they have your restricted license number to cross reference, but if you buy out-of-state and bring it in, you're good to go without them prying.

In NYS the 94 ban never lifted...now we have the SAFE act...and yet there were only 5 deaths from rifles but they want a registration of semi auto rifles that would include tube fed. 22's. No hi cap magazines. Cuomo wants us either sell, turn in or destroy any hi cap magazine by April 15.
