Rolling out with my dad tomorrow morning for an event called 100s in the Hills. Bunch of 100 series Land Cruisers camping and wheeling all weekend in Silverton, CO. Should be a good time.

Went tubing on the delaware... ended up hiking barefoot on the shore about one mile due to severe thunderstorms. Not fun.

This is hardly a "did today" thing, but I just got back from a week's vacation.
I took the boys down to the Intrepid Museum in NYC. My wife came along for the ride, but had no interest whatsoever. I learned I need a new GPS...the one I have from '09 seems to think that the museum (which is an aircraft carrier) is parked somewhere in the middle of Manhattan Island, rather than on the river. Spent a few days after that bumming around, and ended the week with a 12 mile hike which we finished literally minutes before the rain came. It was a good week, but there was a lot of running around and driving, wasn't really as relaxing as it could/should have been. |

Spent the past three days cleaning up from the flood. Wound up with about 200 gallons of water in the basement during the storm that decimated historic Ellicot City which is the next county over. We got 6.2" of rain in just 2 hours. It simply piled up and came in under the doors in the basement. got most of it sucked out that night after making an emergency run to home depot to get a new shop vac with a drain pump. Would fill the vac ever 30 second and then turn on the pump which would empty it outside through a garden hose in just under a minute. Then had to extract as much water from the carpet and pad as we could in that section of the basement. Finally had to pull up the carpet yesterday, pull up the pad as well, and dry it all out separately. Went back through today once it had dried and sprayed it all with a deodorizer/disinfectant/mold and mildew preventative. We've had two 50-pint dehumidifiers running for 48 hours straight and it's just now getting below 60%. It's never happened here before. I know the previous owner (he lives down the street) and he never had anything like that happen in the past. My neighbor got flooded out too. Absolutely nuts.
Tomorrow we'll get the pad and carpet back down and tacked and can then move furniture back around. Should be more space at least since we hauled enough crap away to fill the bed of a Chevy Silverado full-size just this morning. |

Nice! I have an 80's silhouette 686. 8-3/8" barrel, with a four position sight. Someone had the trigger worked, and it is THE smoothest revolver I have ever shot. Having shot both, I feel it's tighter than my uncle's Colt Python. Whoever worked it did an outstanding job. There is no take-up for the double action pull, and the break on single is nice and glassy, with like no weight. I love the gun to death. Paid like $500 for it out the door.
Handled a stock, new 686 the other day, just to compare. It felt like there was sandpaper on the trigger's contact points. :'( |

Pretty sure my boss is gonna fired this week, maybe our depot will shutdown in the next few months, and if they don't reverse the trend, the entire company.

Since I started 14 months ago (I now have the most seniority in that depot, including my boss), we have gone through 9 drivers. They downsized the warehouse staff. Managed to make the 1 remaining warehouse guy who did his job very well (worked there for 5 years), quit. The company itself is downsizing across the country. They are making hailmary passes in attempt to correct the course we're on. Such as raising the delivery fee nearly double, in attempts to make more people pre-order (cheaper if they pre-order). Which not surprisingly resulted in less buying customers. And the most important figure to take into consideration, our company lost 20% in revenue from the previous fiscal year.

Ah, so rather than take a serious look at how to broaden the customer base proactively, they've decided to go the tried and true route to failure which is "raise prices, badger our remaining old stock of customers, and grab every last penny on the way out the door."
If they had been smarter, they would have taken a look at reaching out to the younger professional segment with options that mimic "blue apron" and the like. |

Just bought myself a Remington shell-latch staking tool. The 878 that I bought had NEVER been cleaned, which means the stakes deteriorated on the shell latches over the past 49 years or so. Need to re-stake them so I can put the fire-control group back in. Sucks as I was really hoping to get it to the range this weekend. I might be able to jimmy them back in without the tool for a one-time fix since they're held in place by the trigger group pin, but once I take it apart to clean it again, it'll come apart without being staked in.

Pretty much, it's depressing. I still keep checking the job search engines, waiting for something better to come along. (Job market is pretty thin where I live)
I was going to buy a 18" barrel for my 870, then thought about buying a mag extension. But for a few hundred more I could buy an entire shotgun with all the crap I wanted on it (used). Then I started looking at semis. Been looking at the Mossberg 930, Beretta 1301 and Benelli M2/M4. |
