And also, keep your ear to the ground about the other subsidies that DON'T interfere with insurance pay-outs.

During Matthew last year, my part of the state was out of power for about a week. FEMA came in about a week later and handed out pretty substantial food vouchers as long as your income was under a certain level (and that level was relatively high, IIRC). I still kick myself for not going and getting mine to restock the two fridges worth of stuff I lost.

IIRC, during the WV floods it was either-or. I could be wrong though.

Good luck Don. Give us a shout if you need anything. I'm hoping you have a good homeowner's policy that'll cover stuff. If not that, flood insurance. Friends of mine who lived through the floods in WV last year said to make sure to weigh all your financial reimbursement options. IIRC, you could take FEMA payouts, or you could take insurance payouts, but not both. Don't quote me on that though. Good luck buddy, and if you need anything we can provide, just give us a shout.

I'm about an hour out of Houston now, where my parents live. The Buick is flooded. As is my FR-S, and my Triumph Bonneville.

As for the jonboat, it's old and busted, and me plus gear would probably put it under. This is strictly last ditch. Once we get there, the plan may (and probably will) change.

Anyway, I've been wanting a kayak. Got a little 10' fishing sit-in.

Where are you staying? Are your parents not flooded? Why not paddle the jon boat? How's the Skylark?

Got me a kayak. Gonna use it to try to drag a jon boat behind me and salvage what I can. A stupid plan for a stupid man! If the current is too strong, I'll abort.

Also, before it's mentioned, I'm aware of the redundancy of trying to pull a bigger boat with a little kayak, but there are a lot of factors that have been taken into account that make this seem the most reasonable thing at the time. Everything is, of course, subject to change.

Be careful with that Colorado.  My CVs keep going to hell and taking the 4x4 with em.  I'm about to take it in for, I think, the 4th axle replacement in under 3 years from different shops.

If I go on another cruise it will be with some friends and the drink package will be purchased.

As for a cruise in general, I'm relatively close to the port so getting there is not a hassle. It's nice to sit around and eat whatever you want and have people take care of all the cooking and cleaning with my only responsibility being show up.
Face it guys, common sense is a form of wealth and we're surrounded by poverty.-Strato

For the price, they really can be an absolutely GREAT value, if you live within a manageable trip of a port. A 5 day, all expenses/alcohol included vacation to the Caribbean  for 600 bucks a person is tough to beat.

They're definitely what you make of them though. Have to be interested in seeing the shows, interacting on board and in the ports, etc.

They're not for everyone, but I regret not going on more when I was in my early-mid 20s, and I'd definitely go again with a group of friends and a cabin co-habitant.

Tallen, if you've got one I'll take it. Water isn't in my house yet, but I've pretty much written it off. I've prepped as best I could and got out, but I don't think the house I'm in is any better off than mine. You can't stop water.
