Does one of the competitors rhyme with Aramark?
That makes complete sense, and I have worked for those large corporations. What is the size of your company? |

Idiocy, short-term gains at the expense of long-term profit, inability to pivot quickly. When it became clear, almost immediately, that this thing was going to go on for more than two weeks, they started laying off everyone from dishwashers to middle management and even above in an effort to shed financial liability. That literally left nobody to pick up the phone when the clients started calling to figure out if food service would be possible for the next school year. These companies all have strict top-down management styles with heavy siloing and firewalls to prevent anyone outside the organization from gaining the ability to reach someone who actually has the ability to make decisions or give you any real info. Compare that to my company which has a more balanced management structure (we give operations managers at the unit level the ability to make a lot of decisions that have very real and visible results and consequences) believes in free communication between departments and units, embraces radical candor and individual ownership, and literally gives everyone in the company the personal phone number of both of our owners (I can call Paco and Tina right now from my cell and they'll pick up). That freedom and communication allowed our individual unit-level managers to work with our clients from the get-go to prepare for eventual re-opening and proved ourselves to be invaluable partners in helping to guide policy for many of our clients regarding cleaning, distancing, cost management, PPE procurement, etc. I actually stayed employed and kept my assistant managers whole by working harder than I ever had before to develop plans, distribute food to those in need within the school community, and aid the school in procuring the PPE and necessary chemicals, signage, and equipment to keep the community safe. The company didn't tell me to do this, I just picked up the ball and ran with it as did our other unit-level managers. We had schools where we were so effective, they never actually closed or stopped service (mostly boarding schools which had the ability to essentially quarantine in place until the end of the school year). Those other companies never gave their managers the ability to do any of that. They just cut them all loose to save money in the short term, not taking the long view that they'd need these same folks on the back end of things to get that business back. |

Congrats on the promotion! I'm curious why the competition ghosted their clients?

Glad you were vaxxed up so it was mild. For me, I haven't been on here in a dog's age. I got promoted back in June and it's been non-stop work ever since. I started out with no Hilton Honors account and in just two months, I've hit Diamond Elite status with a full year of carryover and have over 100k points on my account. I should be able to take the family on a vacay for a full week on points alone pretty much anywhere in the world by the end of the work year (June). The good news is, the company makes it worth my while. Big, fat raise, car allowance, phone allowance, and my monthly share of health care premiums dropped to $20/mo, so you can't really beat that. Hopefully, things slow down in a little while because I spend most of my time away from home right now. We picked up 25+ schools this year because all of our competitors just ghosted their clients during COVID. |

Tested positive for COVID last Sunday. Have been fully vaccinated since June. Thankfully the symptoms were mild, so I'm still chalking that up to a success, but still pretty bummed I was a breakthrough case.

Well getting old inhales deeply. Two small strokes, left side weakness only real issue. Played paintball scenario from my wheelchair over weekend, was the HQ guy, rest of team out there, was at HQ alone, 4 bad guys raced in, rolled out of my wheelchair got 3 before they got me, they thought it was going to be easy.
BTW got one of the faulty from factory TMC's, trigger linkage will not allow sear to release rear bolt at times, new parts coming from Tippmann. |

Got married and moved houses the summer before 'Corona. Then got divorced, moved houses again and now bought a house in the Southern California's crazy housing market all during the Pandemic. Fully Vaccinated months ago, qualified early through work.
All of life's most stressful events all in the span of less than 2 years. Came out stronger and happier. Wish all of you good luck and happiness. Have Fun and Stay Safe. PS. Yeah thanks!
I still live in the sane part of the country. Western Cape has avoided that garbage. Mostly because it is semi - tribal, with the Zulus getting ticked off the Ex Pres, who is a Zulu, was arrested. That wasn't the only reason of course but my part of the country is predominantly Xhosa and they don't give two tosses about a Zulu issue. At the beginning of lockdown I started some minor prepping, and everyone thought I was going overboard. Well, I guess it wasn't too bad of an idea but like I said we've skipped most of that. We have our own issues and I'm expecting similar if not the same things to kick off here but it's more likely our protests will involve burning Goverment buildings and such because people here know who to be angry at. I'm a week tomorrow into my first vaccination (Pfizer) so have to wait till Sep 1 to get my full dose. My mom's fully vaxxed and my wife's parents are fully vaxxed too. We're going slow but it's being done. We're up to 260 000/day. Not super many but we only have 45 mil in the country, so it won't be long. That being said my AK is still loaded, my SANDF Pattern 82 Battle Jacket is loaded with mags and gear. Thanks for the concern! |

Just found a link to this place that actually works. I thought it had died!
Wife and I bought our 2nd house outside Kansas City a couple weeks ago. Between moving, buying a house, and selling a house, we've been pretty busy. the new house was in dire need of cosmetic fixes. It had been a rental for the past 16 years, and from talking to the neighbors, the owners did next to nothing to maintain it. We're repainting everything, replacing all of the carpet with laminate and vinyl planks, and refinishing the cabinets, plus 2 bathrooms. Mold remediation company is in the basement today cutting and cleaning (paid for by the sellers), so we'll have some drywalling to do down there soon too. Trying to get everything done in the next couple of weeks while I'm on leave before I start a year of Army school and an MBA at Kansas at the same time. We were going to keep our house in GA and rent it out, but decided to take advantage of the current market. Right now we're just waiting on the buyer's lender to clear closing (beware of Quicken Loans).

Still insanely jealous of spydercam!
I am grateful I didn't lose as much as some, but still got my teeth kicked in regarding the year 2020. But I recently received a offer letter for a really good job.... Feels good to have a win. |

We bought an older house that needed updating throughout. It's been 8 years and we're just now tackling the more major projects. New kitchen, new bathroom downstairs, new windows, and eventually new siding. The smaller stuff (downstairs bathroom, laundry room, drywall repair here and there, even some structural things like supporting the main beam with jack posts to re-level the main floor) I can do myself without taking a month of Sundays to get it done. But the bigger things? We're paying to have them done. No sense in wasting all of my time with that. Buy something that at the very least just needs some cosmetic updates. No sense in taking care of someone else's deferred maintenance. The folks who moved in down the street from us learned that big-time and now the husband and his father in law are spending every weekend doing renovations because it's the only way they can afford to get everything done. |

Buying a house has been the most stressful thing to ever happen to me.
The past year or so homes have flew off the market above asking. Realtor showed us a home not on the market yet, low price, needs renovation throughout due to age. GF is 10000% on board to buy it since it is the right price in the right location. The pressure on me has been nothing short of extreme. This opportunity will not come again and it is solely on my shoulders to decide this for us. Probably going to pass which makes me feel like a complete POS. I don't want to play carpenter every day/weekend
