As a follow-up to that, something I saw in the paper this morning: One of the statistically significant variables among places seeing an upward trend in COVID-19 cases is restaurant spending. Places where grocery store spending is staying above-average and restaurant spending below-average are not seeing as much of an increase as places where grocery spending has leveled off and restaurant spending creeps back toward normalcy.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the states getting hit hard now never got a "real" first wave compared to many others?

Some did, some didn't. Florida, for example, got hit really hard the first time (The Miami and Jacksonville areas being little epicenters) and is worse now in terms of numbers than they were at the end of April. Florida is up 259% in the last 14 days. Georgia got a huge first wave both in the Atlanta area and in the more rural Albany, and now has one of the fastest upticks in the country, adding nearly 100% more cases every 14 days.

On the other side of things, there are places like Arizona, Idaho and parts of Texas where the virus never really had a first wave and are now getting slammed.

I read a good write-up about it in the newspaper the other day that said that this upwards swing we're seeing now doesn't have any good single variable that explains it. It's not really the protests, because New York City cases are going down, Minnesota, the origin of the protests, is breaking even, and the state with the biggest 14-day increase is Idaho, not exactly a hotbed of anti-racist protesting. It's also not Memorial Day, as that came and went without moving the numbers much. It's not increased testing, because testing has increased in places like Connecticut, New Jersey and Maryland but the rates there are going down. Not even reopening plans can be purely blamed, as Georgia reopened nearly two months ago and is only now seeing the increases.

About the only thing that explains it is people just not taking precautions as seriously as they should in their regular, everyday life. People are not following the guidelines to the same stringency they were in March and April -- people are not wearing masks, not washing/sanitizing hands, not avoiding unneeded contact, and not social distancing.

Now every Tom and Harry has one and the prices are sky high. Everyone is shooting in the Carry Optics division.

How much are Holosuns there?

I shot one IDPA match when I was heavy in the competitive scene. They were a lot more uptight than USPSA (IPSC).

They are amazing, focusing on the front site was never natural for me, being able to focus on the target was a game change. My speed and accuracy dramatically increased the first time I used a RDS.

Yep he covered what it took to get an MG, collector, theme etc. And here in the states it costs thousands to acquire just a single MG. But with the Hughes amendment we're stuck with anything 1986 and older. Unless you hold a FFL license.

Mind you, that might all be moot in the not too distant future given a recent case where the DOJ let a guy walk free because the NFA is flawed in its "tax" role: https://reason.com/2020/04/22/doj-dismisses-indictment-of-machine-prosecution-while-cert-petition-was-pending/

Good news, but I'm not holding my breath.

Ordered a Trijicon RMR to replace my Holosun on my pistol. Will transfer the Holosun to my rifle with a off axis mount.

*cough* with a special occupation tax stamp *cough*

01s and 07s can get post 86 dealer samples, but they have to have the correct SOT for them (i.e. become a licensed Class 3 dealer) and even then they're still expensive and a biatch to deal with since the BATFE requires you to notify them every time you move it across state lines, or out of the safe for more than 24 hours.

It is. Our gunlaws are very similar to what I understand the ATF&E Form1 /Form 4 applications are. Someone needs to decide if you've provided enough reason to own something and OK it.

This has quite hilariously bit them right in the ass. In 2006 they changed the system from "will issue" to "shall issue" and put on hard limits to number of guns you can own as a "normal" person. 4 total, no more than 2 pistols. What they were expecting was 1 SD gun, 1 sport pistol, 1 hunting rifle and 1 hunting/sporting shotgun. That's everything right? They then introduced 2 new classes of citizens, Dedicate Hunters and Dedicated Sports Shooters. Both of these can bypass that 4 gun restriction, as well as the ammunition restrictions (200 at a time,no more than 2400/year). This is where the fun and games started. So many people had more than 2 pistols or 2 rifles that almost everyone signed up as "Dedicated". There is a documented process to be "dedicated" and once you've got it they are pretty much back to "will issue". They have tried to fight this in court but basically everyone got dedicated, and now because we have this status "restricted" guns like Semi auto rifles and shotguns become easily available. So everyone in creation bought one. For having 14 of us sharing a beat up M1 Carbine and maybe an LM5, everyone has at least one centerfire rifle, a rimfire rifle and possibly a PCC. Many have multiples :p :p So silly.

And you know what? The legal citizens still don't commit crimes with their restricted guns, the criminals still use "stolen" police R5's and struggle era AK-47's.

As for suppressors, yup. I have a bunch of them in my garage. I bought a mono-core .22 suppressor fairly recently on a whim to see if it works better than my home made one. It does not. (mine has more internal volume I suspect). You can't go hunting on many game farms if you don't have a suppressor on your rifle.

Quote and able to get a brand new machine gun shipped in seemed petty sweet!
? I don't know what you mean about this?

Legit machineguns are super heavily restricted here. You have to be a collector to swing a license for one. And that's not an easy thing to do. It is gate-keepered by the other collectors and they have a sequence you have to follow. Personally I can't give to tosses about manual rifles but to become a collector I have to build up a collection (and testable knowledge) of first old pistols, then old rifles, then semi auto rifles and then full auto's. So you're looking at spending thousands just to get into the door. Collections also need to be "themed" so I can't say "machineguns", but something like the "US paratrooper loadout 1943-1945, European theater" would mean I can build a whole theme from pistols-rifles-semi auto rifles-full auto.

We're looking at the possibility of going back into lockdown. Yay. I forsee people ignoring it completely.

We were in level 5, IE full lockdown for 6 weeks (no travel, only essential services open, limited items in shops, curfew, military/police roadblocks) , level 4 lockdown for 4 weeks (more shops open, travel restricted but exercise allowed during certain hours, online trading allowed) and have been in level 3 for 2 weeks (no restrictions on businesses, mandatory masks and sanitizing, exercise and excursions allowed any time, social distancing, required to stay at home when not shopping/exercising).

They've now noticed a spike in cases and there is a rumour we're going back to level 4 tonight/tomorrow. Let's see. As part of their plans to prevent hospital transmissions and keep beds open cigarettes and alcohol aren't allowed to be sold during level 4&5, so everyone was stocking up on wine and spirits today.

If/when there is a spike in the next week or two I'd look for the forced business re-openings (see maskless vegas casinos) as a more likely culprit than outdoor gatherings. Protesters have been largely pretty good about masking at least.

My original sarcastic comment aside, I am very curious to see how COVID-19 statistics will be affected.

The internet is awash with looney theories about how the Rona is nothing more than a flu to it has mutated into something less lethal. By all accounts hospitals should be swarmed in a week or this virus isn't (currently) that bad..

I don't think people will care, they say 54 million Americans will go hungry in 3 months due to this pandemic.
