so i bought an a-5 off of ebay.  I went to check the serial number when i got it, and I noticed that there wasnt one...  The powder coat on the gun looked a little sloppy so i figured that it may have just been repainted and the serial may have gotten filled in.  I polished off the paint in that spot and theres definatly no serial number there.  What up with that?

The serial number might have been milled off, it happens all the time.

Do you have a picture of the marker?

no picture, but i dont think they were milled off, as that whole section is uniform, from front "mp5 stump looking thing" to the rear grip, and to mill them off it would leave a noticable difference in reciver thickness...

He could heve just milled the numbers off (or filled them in, not sure if they're imprinted or not on the A-5), either way, he probably took them off somehow so he can call Tippmann and say it was stolen because he probably activated the warranty. Then he could get another marker for free.

Yep, I lied about getting a Trans Am.

Hmmm... sounds to me you have a contract gun, probably once used by the CIA, with all identifying marks removed as to allow for deniability.

Nope. It's a warranty, not insurance. Non-working gun: send it back for fix/replacement. Stolen gun: SOL.

Or as mentioned there might have been a problem with the reciever half and it was replaced by warranty (or repurchased because the previous owner did something dumb like try to pry the halves apart without unscrewing them). In that case they may send out a shell without a serial number, but a call to Tippmann would probably be needed to confirm that. My guess is that replacement shells probably are not stamped to prevent the purchase of a new shell half being used to disguise a theft ... on the other hand that's exactly what might have been done anyway - buying the shell half to disguise a theft.

Have you taken the marker apart? I bought a left and right receiver halve and instead of a serial number, the purchase date was etched on the inside.

Maybe he took 2 left recivers and put em together so the serial and warning **edited** is gone. can you still see the warning engraving on there? if not, i bet he put 2 lefts together and filled in the hole where the cocker would be? idk, does it make a huge difference? as long as you can use it....
