I have owned three A5's and they are great markers. Built like a
tank and can really take the abuse of a harsh day in the woods.
The only problem that I have found with them is the ratchet mechanism
in the cyclone. It is the weak link in the design of the
marker. Now, I know that the original cyclone had a hard plastic
ratchet and that it basically turned the cyclone into a blender.
The "fix" was to replace the ratchet with a softer "rubber like"
ratchet. This allowed some give in the mechanism, to not snatch
the paintball too fast and not rupture the ball. The problem with
this is that when the ratchet wears out, it is difficult to replace,
(if you have one) and takes time to get right. Why not just make
the ratchet out of the original hard plastic and make the cyclone
feeder arms out of a softer rubber? What this does is make the
cyclone bullet proof. There would be no parts to wear out, no
parts to replace. Making the feeder arms out of the softer rubber
still gives the "flex" that is needed and your cyclone does not stop
working in the middle of a day at the field. I have been working
on this problem and have found a way to cast the arms in a soft rubber,
but the ratchet is a bit more complicated to cast. Which is the
reason that I am posting this thread. If I could make the ratchet
myself, I would. Is this something that is being worked on, or is
tippmann just gonna sell replacement ratchets?
