Does anyone know what would happen if you filled the empty space of the flatline shroud for the A-5? Would it make a noise difference? I checked the search, and found nothing. Any thoughts??

I doubt it would do anything.

Someone in the A5OG recommended filling the space with 'Great Stuff', the expandable foam found at any home improvement store.  Have not tried it myself, but he said it reduced the noise that the flatline makes.

It will not do anything as there is no porting in the shroud to release the gas into the muffler to make it quieter.  AND ACCORDING TO ATF silencers for paintball guns are not illegal. I manufacture working silencers that fit over the end of your 7/8-1" barrel. If you have a closed bolt gun i.e. A-5, the silencer works eeven better. But just to fill the F/L shroud with whatever will not do anything.

I think (or at least where I live) you can not have a silencer on a weapon or firearm and a paintball gun falls in that category. I could be wrong, I don't know. I have a flatline on my 98c and it has about 1 and 1/2 inches of big porting and it is really noisy. Guess thats the price for a flat trajectory and a little more range.

The Silencer laws vary from state-to-state, I have talked with the ATF(alchohol, tabacco, and firearms) and they have a "no tolerance policy" here in Oregon, "if it can silence a paintball gun then it can easily be modified to silence any other gun", is what they told me, so don't get caught with one if you have one, thats why mine is a "quick-detatch"

If you're going to use foam, get the sound proof stuff that's used in drywall and attics.

Would porting the shroud itself make any difference?

Exactly. I fail to see though how the ATF's position on silencers "varies". Paintball silencers are illegal, period, for exactly that reason.

silencers are illegal on firearms... is your paintball marker considered a firearm? NO.  check the law for sure next time you talk about it.

it will work depending on what you put in there...

you need a completly clear criminal record to qualify for a very pricey liscense, in my state anyway.

i dont know why people think a painball silencer would at all compare to a firearm silencer.

silencers for guns are very easy to make. iv made one for my .22 which made the gun about two feet longer, not very practical. but iv never tried to make one for my marker, no point. the J&J is quiet enough for me.

packing your flatline shroud will not do much. it may make it seem less hallow, but has little point.

it will make a slight decrease in noise, bot probably nothing significant. Noise does pass through the walls of the flatline, granted not nearly as much as from the tip, but adding mass to the inside of the flatline will make a sliht difference.

It would add weight. No noise difference, since the noise is from the internals smashing into each other and the air being released down and out of the end of the barrel. Unless you want to ruin your Flatline and drill porting in it (could work, more likely just destroy it), it would be a total waste.
