cleaning the 98

i need to no how to clean my 98 or atleast what to clean and whats the effects if i don't ?????

Hey, welcome to the forums man.  Cleaning your 98 custom or (98-old) is actually very easy if you know how to dissasemble your marker.  there are three ways to clean your marker.

1) Clean the outside of the marker, and make no dirt is on it or anything.  This cleaning part is mainly for clean looks.

2.) take apart your marker(seperate the two halves). If you don't know how to do this, then reply to this message and ask me, and I will be glad to help.  Once taken apart, take off the rear bolt, the front bolt and the striker spring and link arm, and the buffer o-ring(grey o-ring in the back).  obtain paintball specialty oil before you do anything else.  Make sure the oil you are using is meant for paintball markers, otherwise it could damage your o-rings and or parts.  Personally, I use gold cup oil, and i have about 5 bottles of it, plus i use pure 100% silicone grease for other reasons in paintball. just worry about the paintball oil.  heres some at actionvillage if you don't alreayd have some, or your local paintball store should sell some.   http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/S tore/en/-/USD/BrowseCatalog-Start;sid=lj8QPRNV1-cQh1FfUL3QlR nz6PfsyYhX-Kw=?CategoryName=paintball-gun-loaders-and-access ories-gun-oil

Clean the inside of the marker with a cloth, because old oil is a dirt magnet.  Clean the insides of any debris or dirt, then go on to oiling it up.Once you have the oil put 1-2 drops on each moving part and the o-rings. Then apply your fingers to the oil and spread all over the parts.  Also put a drop of oil onto the sear. the sear is the piece near the trigger that catches onto the rear bolt.  make sure your springs are ok as well. some sites sell madmann spring kits for the 98 custom.  once oiled put your markers halves back together

3.) with your barrel off and no hopper, put about 4 drops of oil into the little hole in the asa.  This is where your co2 or Compressed air bottle screws into.  After you put the oil in the hole, cock your gun and screw on the tank.  Then dry fire about 15-25 times.  This pushes the oil throughout the marker and valve.  This oils the hidden o-rings inside the valve..  Or you have an expansion chamber or reg, then screw those off, and do the same thing.  The oil flows better withouth going through thosee.  Although sometimes it is neccessary to oil inside the reg.  But you can oil a lot of regs manually by taking them apart. 

Thats all the ways to clean your marker. 

dont loose anything like the front site spring.and make sure the ball detent (the bright orange thing by the barrel) is on and  facing the right way.u dont want to be shooting about 3 balls per trigger pull and if its the wrong way it could break or shoot right out of the gun.

and make sure your oil wont melt an o-ring
