Okay I think I may have posted this before but I always put it off and then forget what the problem was anyway.
Everytime I fire my 98C it makes a weird sound like it's using way to much air, very loud and chops alot, like 1 out 4 balls. So I took it apart and looked at the power tube but didn't see any cracks but the screws on the right side to hold the power tube in are pretty loose. So is a cracked power tube the problem? |

Possible that your valve bolts are stripped- you may have torqued them too much putting them on. When these are "stripped," it's actually the valve that is stripped. May also be that your velocity is set too high (above 300 fps). Check the bolts by taking them out, and try putting some teflon tape around them (just wrap around once or twice). Check your velocity next time you're at a chronograph (don't play until you do). Make sure to also keep the CVX oiled well. |

If your powertube actaly is cracked you will need to replace it. But if just the screws are loose, you will get this problem. So apply Loctite on the valve screw threads, and just snug them in. Be very carfull not to overtighten, crossthread and strip the holes. When your bolts are loose on the valve, the rear bolt will pull the whole valve back during blowback a tiny bit further since its loose. Then since its in a differant position, the bolt will hit the valve plunger harder or lighter; usually harder. |
