Co2 is fine for Impulses. The full 800psi+ is regulated down to 300psi by the regulator. Impulses run good on Co2.

Where do you say the sound is coming from? It sounds like a leak or bad o-ring. It could be from the fittings, or macro. So find the leak using some soapy water, and reseal whats leaking with some teflon tape or whatever is appropriate.

Put an antisiphon on the tank along with an on/off immediately.

300PSI?  Man, make the dwell time longer and lower the pressure.
Cockers are like stick shifts, after a few transmissions you get the hang of them.

No. co2 should NOT be used on Impulses unless the tank has an anti-syphon tube that is fitted to the gun. If you use a pin-valve co2 on an Impulse you should have an inline on/off valve for gassing/degassing problems.
