The Smart Parts Vision Impulses are your best bet for the money.  There are about 15 different team versions that you can view on the Smart Parts website.  Most of these team versions (like the aforementioned Rat and Rat Jr.) have most if not all of the upgrades that you will need.  They each have custom milling of the frame, too (especially cool is the Python version).  A good source for pricing is the Impulse Owners Group website (www.impulseownersgroup.com).  They sell new and used on the forums and they have a lot of information about all versions of the impulse and their components (even the stock manuals are downloadable). 

I am an avid Tippmann user, but I broke down and purchased a pro-team-used Strange Vision Impulse with MaxFlo regulator and a complete Freak barrel kit for $650 delivered.  $650 is a hell of a deal for the marker alone, let alone with a full Freak kit which by itself retails for $190.  The only thing missing is an Odyssey Halo B or Empire Reloader B hopper and an HP tank.  Check it out.  At the very least, it will be a good source of technical and pricing information.

By the way, you should definitely check out pbreview.com FIRST!!!  They will give you ratings on any marker you are considering.  Many of the reviewers may have used several of the markers you are thinking about and give good direct comparisons.  The same goes for any other paintball component such as loaders, pod carriers, HP tanks, etc.  Good Luck!
