    Posted: 24 February 2009 at 11:59am
So I have a paintball course that I've had for about 5 years now.  It's not the paid to play kind of field that your probably thinking of, where you go and buy paint there and all kinds of stuff. But more or less a well played out field that a bunch of my friends and people from high school and anybody I know who plays paintball plays at.

A few times a year I have around 20 people come and play and have a great time.  It's probably the best place to play paintball around the area that most people are familiar with.

The course consists of about 3 acres and I have around 50 metal bunkers set up throughout the course.  Both teams start about 600 feet away from each other.  The field is about 1/4 woods and the rest an open to partially open field, it makes for a nice mix and a well balanced game.  One of the main things that really get people excited is a thing I built which has come to be called the "Snipe Tower".  It's a two story "tower" that can fit about 4 people max on either of it's 2 levels.  The Snipe Tower seems to be a pretty awesome and symbolizing part of the field, most of the field can be seen from it.

My main goal in building the field and the experience is so that everybody will have an overall blast playing and a day of a whole helluva lota fun.

My question to any of you guys is, what could I add to the field itself to make things alot more fun yet a little new?  What about ideas that would work as far as other types of affordable weaponry like grenades or smoke bombs?

I'll ask some people I play with these ideas, but some of them who aren't deep into paintball will spit out ideas like "Dude, what if we get some old cars out of a junk yard and put them everywhere?!  That'd be awesome!  People could get in and shoot out the windows!".   ... -_-  ... Or "What if we make a big hole in the ground where you can go and hide and peep up when people walk by?!"  ... Keeping in my mind that I don't want my field to look that much of a piece of crap junk with cars or other crap sitting in it randomly.  And also while utilyzing WORKING ideas..  Nobody whose in a paintball match when it comes down to it is going to want to sit in a hole just HOPING that someone will walk by so they can get screwed over and trapped in a damn hole.  Let alone the time it would take to dig a dang whole big enough to stand and even crouch decently in.

Here is a pic or two of my course from different times, check em out if you want.  While I realize there's a bit of metal junk everywhere now, it's at least somewhat orderly or structured.  Throwing cars and random chunks of crap in a field would make it looks like a piece of ****.  Think of it as "orderly junk", and any decent looking paintball field could be considered.

agreed.

other than making a fort int he middle or something, or a bunch of sniper towers everywhere, i have no ideas.

smoke grenades are sort of your decision and you can find videos on how to make them on youtube, so it wouldnt be that hard to do.

Thanks guys!  ;D

Yea it's gettin' tricky.  I'm also thinking about what if I added a big "snake" type bunker setup somewhere.

you can add a bunch of large tubes for people to walk through that goes along some parts of the field if you have them

Sand bags and tubes would be awesome.  I thought about the tube idea before, but I don't know where I would get any (for cheap at least).  Or even the sang bags for that matter.

I don't think your friends are too far off IMO. Go rent a Bobcat for the day and dig some trenches or make some hills.  Dry lake bed type features that you can build bridges over are fun.  Granted having a bunch of yard cars would look kind of crappy and might be a code violation depending on your zoning, but it's not a bad idea either. I know of several fields that have them.  One of my favorite fields is one that has a container field. The owner has taken a bunch of old trailers and arranged them into sort of a maze. Some have even been upended and set into the ground. Not exactly practical for the private field, but kind of cool nonetheless. I personally am a fan of bigger bunkers/blinds that encourage upright stances. I am a bigger/older guy and can't stand going to fields that only have bunkers built to protect 80lb, height challenged 10 year olds. Maybe build up a wall around your tower for "fort" play. I also lean towards woodsball, so for me, letting the area revert back to woods would be an option. Scour construction areas for discarded lumber. Make sure they don't care though. Also, check into old pallets for building material.

Alright thanks man.  I had previously dug a few trenches, but I had a problem because the ground was alot of clay, so if we got one good rain the trench would fill with water and me a big pile of mud, even in the summer. I might take up on that idea with the big bunkers a little more now that you mentioned it too.  I know I have alot of fairly sized bunkers, but for bigger people or even at odd angles they can get a little weird, so I'ma consider "fusing" some of them together to make bigger bunkers, that's actually an excellent idea.  I'll consider the "wall" type idea around the tower too, that's a pretty good idea.  Thanks alot.  I think it sparked some more ideas.

Yeah, mud in the trenches is always a possibility. You could put some grass seed on it towards the fall and let it grass up.

I could give that a try, it's just that it's on the top of a hill and I think the hole ends up being one of the easiest places for the water to run, so it likes to fill with a bit of water too.

lol I suppose.  I would totally be all over digging mass trenches and and landscapes, the only thing is, my parents don't dig it too much.  Lol in fact they hate it.  But give me several years once I got my own place, it'll be 20 times better than my one now!

Personally, I would rather see my kid digging holes in the yard, than sitting on his butt playing video games. Oh well, being an adult does have it's priviledges sometimes. Good luck with your projects and have fun with it.

that tower is awesome dude.....i agree with leaning the fiel more into the woods......like make another tower somwhere in the woods oposite side of the tower u already have...like tuen the woods into more of the main battle field....or two sided
like the woods is where the action is goig on...it woody...cany exactly sprint in there and u never know if somone is waiting around a big tree or somthing or bushes....then the other side(the place where u have the picture....thats like the more open side...u can get a lot of ground but ur open...its like if theres heavy fighting in the woods...try flanking from the other side...alrighty hey wait i see them comming....(then another skirmish)...more ppl come....so that fight becomes the main battle...then somone says...hey lets sneak through the woods.....

flanking is awesome......another tower and maybe sum bunkers at the base of it would make it a fortress....any who thats just my thought

good luck

if you have a golf cart or something similar to it you can put netting aroud it and have one or two guns on the front of it that the barrels are sticking out of the netting. put two ppl in it one to drive and the other to shoot. then you can get a rocket launcher and the first missile that hits the tank can make it were the tank cannot move  then u shoot t again and the tank is done. or you could just shoot it once. i've played it twice its pretty fun
