hey guys,

As some of you may know from my previous post, I have successfully installed a JCS RVA for my A-5.  I have been told that you can use the Front Velocity Adjuster that comes with the A-5 to set the general velocity and then use the RVA to fine tune it.  I guess I have two questions here:  1.  Can I plug up the Front Velocity Adjuster area so my gun can just rely on the Rear Velocity Adjuster?  If so, what do I use to plug the area?  question 2:  What is the point of having an RVA to "fine tune" your velocity?  If you still have the Co2 wasting Forward Velocity adjuster hogging air, I don't see how the RVA can help.  Please explain.

This case would be totally true with a 98.

However the A-5 requires a minimum amount of air or the cyclone won't operate. If you turn down your RVA too much then it won't function. Therefor you use the RVA to get in the ballpark, and then use the forward screw to make fine adjustments.

If the cyclone doewsn't work, then you need to back out your RVA until it works, then fix velocity with the forward screw.

Keep your FVA. The velocity screw all the way out will give you the same amount of shots as all the way in. It just diverts airflow. And you can fine tune your velocity for max efficiancy by adjusting FVA and RVA (known as "tuning", similar to reg tuning on LP guns).

But the RVA changes dwell (time the valve is open, dependant on force of rear bolt). Like he said, the cyclone needs a certain amount of air to function, so I wouldnt depend on just an RVA

But you can get a powertube with no velocity screw hole by JCS if you want. I dont reccomend this way though- http://www.bp-usa.com/a_5.htm

^ So if I got the powertube without the velocity adjuster, would that make my gun's velocity dependant only on my RVA?  Also, why don't you recommend it?  Are there side effects of having that powertube installed?

Yeah you would only be able to adjust it through the RVA only. That powertube is mainly for LP setups where you can adjust your reg to change your velocity. But only depending on the RVA for velocity isnt reliable.

Think of this- with the gold powertube its like having your velocity screw all the way up. And you may not be able to get it down enough with the RVA because the spring can only be so loose before the cyclone stops working.

This is why I dont think you should get it unless your running LP.

Simply put - the function of the RVA is primarily to optimize your gas usage.  Once that is set, you don't want to touch your RVA until you change playing conditions.  Use the FVA to adjust velocity.

A pressure front could roll in and your velocity will change.

It can, by turning your FVA all the way up and lowering your RVA down, you can lessen the tension and lower the dwell using less air.
